Flensburg. Most Germans know it for one reason only: its where the traffic register is located, and where you get your points for wrongdoing on the road (too many of which result in loosing your license)

I was born in Flensburg! My grandfather had a discotheque near the Navy school in the sixties. They were dancing twist back then. He was reportedly the biggest customer of Flensburger Pilsener (also my favorite beer) at that time. Sometimes it happened that he, although he stocked up beer in the afternoon, he had to call the brewery in the middle of the night to get more, and he got it. I learned that on his funeral, from the guy who worked for the Flensburger brewery, driving the truck with with beer barrels through the city for decades.

You should go to Rock&Metal Day'z in Oschersleben, it's also in the middle of a race track but during the 3-day festival is at the same time a race you can watch if you don't have a band you want to see. We too went to Bergen Belsen in school, coming from Nordrhein-Westfahlen. Must have been like '04 or '05. I remember when they showed us the footage from that particular camp. That sure as hell left an impression. I remember that some more sensitive individuals had to leave the room. And the sight of those mass graves was also quite bizarre. Just getting that teeny tiny glimpse into this time period was pretty fucking frightening.

@@linoid Well, it was started in the 13th century and finished in the 19th. But either way, it did not see *most* of our history - the high times of middle Europe were the 10th to 12th century were it dominated Europe, in the 13th century it was already in decline and had to give hegemony over to France... If you look for a "truely" historical building, visit the Speyerer Dom ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speyer_Cathedral ) , which, along with the Aachener Münster, can be seen as the most important German church. It was erected by the Salierkaiser Konrad in the 11th century and still houses the graves of most Salier emperors - the emperors that ruled at the peak of of the Holy Roman Empire in the 11th century. The Speyerer Dom was also the world's biggest church when it was built. Too bad it was erected too early to be a gothic church, and too bad its not located in Bavaria ;)

@@dude988 Yep, technically (or more like lawfully 🤔?) it's Erdbeerkonfitüre. But in Austria and Germany, since 2013 it's allowed to call any type of fruit jam Marmelade, which was the regularly and colloquially used word before the EU regulation was put into place in the 70's if I'm not completely misinformed ^^'. Everyone around here is calling it that, anyway. Never heard anyone calling it Konfitüre :). In fact, at least here in my home area that actual marmalade isn't even as widely produced or home-made as strawberry (or for that matter any other type of berry or red fruit) jam and the one yellowish type that's most commonly sold is probably not lemon/citrus fruit based, either. That's probably apricot jam ^^

@@KrautsalatAnAmericaninGermany The usual kinds of Beer available (at least in Bavaria) are: A "Radler" (Beer and lemonade), a "Weizen"(Wheet Beer) a Pils(Pilsner) a "Helles"(Pale/light Beer) and occasionally a "Schwarzbier"(Dark Lager). On celebrations they sometimes make a Festbier usually it has a bit more alcohol then the normal bier. Because of the Reinheitsgebot from 1516 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinheitsgebot) stuff like Radler isnt allowed to be called Beer in Germany( i think) They are called "Biermischgetränke". The most popular beer in Germany is the Pils followed by the Radler and then the Weizen.
