The problem with that plan is that, while the soda itself doesn't exactly go bad, the cans have a definite half-life. I noticed the soda was starting to taste "off," but then when I was finding empty, unopened cans, with the bins the cases were stored in were filling up with soda, I knew the cans were failing. It was also a way to mask the shift from sugar to HFCS. All other sodas could make the transition in a single day without anyone noticing, but Coca-Cola could not. Been drinking soda for almost 70 years. Difference between Coke and Pepsi is Coke uses orange as fruit base, Pepsi uses Lemon. Mt. Dew normally uses orange. I prefer orange. Dr. Pepper claims 23 & I'm sure different 'flavors' change around but I suspect plum. Plum is good but no sane person would make prune soda. Fresca is still around but if like me you live in a Pepsi area it can be hard to get. I like grapefruit somewhat, but if you do not I get it.I RC was still around a few years ago but I don't shop much now It's part of Dr pep-7 up partnership if it is. With Vernor's-I like Vernor's because most ginger ale, you just can barely taste anything. I'm fairly sure Pepsi owns most rights to Dr. Pepper across the country When I grew up you could barely get any Root Beer around here except for Hires or Dad's. I may not have seen Hires for decades I got some Dad's at a local chain up to a few years ago but then they stopped getting it. I liked blue Pepsi. But you can figure out why lemon coke went bust, & you never hear pepsi going orange. You know there's nasty orange disease, if it gets too bad I suspect Pepsi will go to watermelon Dew, just add sugar...

6:31 *I never even heard of Pepsi a.m. I was on my first enlistment then so I guess I missed it not being within range of a television. And Young MC busting a move with a can of coffee flavored Pepsi... jumping on that one hit wonder bandwagon fast quick and in a hurry!*

At 5:57: If I am in a diner on a very hot morning, I will order a Pepsi instead of coffee... its just as refreshing at breakfast because of its citrus notes that Coke lacks.

I really miss apple slice. It was my favorite as a kid in the 80s. Pineapple was good too.

Surprised I didn't see Chelsea, a low-alcohol (0.5%) carbonated drink created by Anheuser-Busch in the late 1970s. I'll never forget when it hit the soda machine right outside of the Junior High school...didn't last long though.

It was debated at the time whether the introduction of "New Coke" was just a marketing ploy to drum up enthusiasm and publicity for regular Coke. Unlikely; but there was certainly a lot of publicity at the time: taste tests, audience surveys, New Coke v. Pepsi, etc.

In Back to the Future, Marty asks for a Pepsi Free. Another Pepsi product that didn't stick around.

The new coke debacle not surprised it made the list. Some people claim it was a deliberate marketing move to boost sales of the original formula but no it was a huge blunder that Coke pulled off a big save.

Actually, the formula for New Coke is used in Diet Coke, while Coke Zero uses the Classic Coke formula.
