The whole Sparky Thurman Plugg gimmick had to be a dig at NASCAR and Richard Petty because Vince hated Brian France for stealing his method of marketing by casting some nascar drivers as babyfaces and heels in the media. The first letter of each name the character had spelled out STP as in the company that sponsored Richard Petty when he was racing and still sponsors his team to this day.

I actually love the idea they had for Lars Sullavin (although the name is terrible). Having a sophisticated, intellectual guy who could also physically destroy you actually sounds really cool! Maybe it’s just the James Bond/Sherlock Holmes fan in me. But I could see it actually working if done right. Mix elements of Damian Sandow, William Regal, Marty Scurall, and maybe even early Vladimir Koslov and have him as this super intellectual villain character who’s also super cerebral, evil, and violent in the ring. It’s generic, but also kind of dampens the campiness by having him be a legitimate threat. Only problem is it could just be seen as a ripoff of the butcher in AEW in some ways. I definitely wouldn’t waste it on Lars Sullivan though.

Some of these gimmicks are not so bad. Sometimes people forget that wrestling is a soap opera or a tv series, it is not a sport, it would only be a sport if the fights were real and the results were not predetermined. The series and soap operas, have people who smoke, who take drugs, who are prisoners, Nazis, racists, terrorists, so wrestling can have them too, and if it's the villain, it shouldn't be a problem. I see a lot of wrestling fans going along with the non-fans, who are always saying that wrestling is fake, but are outraged with gimmicks like the one R-Truth had, of a a smoker who has no breath. Remember? It lasted one episode...Muhammad Hassan ended up losing his job for playing one of the best villains I've ever had the pleasure of watching on tv, and that should never have happened, especially when it only had to do with the racism of the people in charge of the channel that aired Smackdown.
