17:07 - I incorrectly describe the wood on this Ukulele as being Hawaiian Koa when it is in fact 'Formosan Koa'. Both woods are types of Acacia, we were thrown off by L Luthiers product information when they first arrived and this has only just recently come to our attention. Apologies

I have decided to get the Kay KTI-90 later this month from you. I'm a total beginner and apart from a set of Maracas this will be my first musical instrument. I like the extra sound hole, as I'd only be playing for myself anyway. The price is affordable. Something really cheap would probably frustrate me and put me off forever. Watched a lot of your videos and being a late 50-year old just over 5 foot woman, I think the concert size is ok.

Hi Alex, could you do this video again putting a low G on each instrument?! (I'm just kidding ... hahaha!!!!) Fabulously informative video as always. My favs are the Millar and the L.Luthier. Thank you again so much for taking the time to do these videos for us. Hope you are having a great day! x

I get a kick seeing “my” Millar ukulele in one of these videos - I like the description of the tone as piano-like. It’s a wonderful instrument - comfortable, and beautiful looking and sounding. Though my goodness it really needed the string change I gave it today; the old strings were not a pretty sight. That’s what happens I suppose after lots of playing. Anyway, thanks - it’s informative to see what’s going on across a big price range, and an epic ten ukulele video must be a lot of work, which I appreciate.

Nice one Alex. Each uke was totally different. Agree with the Kanile’a being volcanic. Looks like molten magma frozen in time. Ironic it’s Hawaiian. Have a great weekend.

Man, it's not even fair. That Kanilea sounds head and shoulders above all the others on this presentation . . . at least what I can glean from the video's sound quality. Might be different in real time and space. They are all beauties though. One comment about Ponos; they all sound great and the build quality is first class. But their nut width is too narrow for me. I realize that it's a personal preference. I like a wide, flatter neck dimension. Thanks for the vid.

You are clearly right about how more affordable ukuleles are improving to respond to competitors and narrow the gap with higher priced models. At what point do manus hurt their higher end sales with their own offering? Regardless the Kanilea was a clear winner but Millar and L luthier are not far behind if sound is the chief criteria. But that Kanilea is truly a work of art. Sigh.

Just an FYI. The L Luthier is made of "Formosan Koa" not Hawaiian koa. A different species of acacia. That's why it's more affordable than Hawaiian koa instruments.

@@SouthernUkuleleStore No, Alex, not passionate. Just a bit curious that so many (usually guitar) players wear hats while performing, why wear hats indoors where they're certainly not needed, and perhaps why one wouldn't want to put a bit of shape into the bill of his baseball-type hat. Just curious, not fault-finding or passionate at all. What would be the shipping charge for a L Luthier "KOA" S to Florida, USA? Thanks for the great, informative videos!

@@SouthernUkuleleStore do you have 10 sopranos ukes in store? It does seem that stores and makers seen to be focusing more on tenor and concert ukes these days. Obviously you have to stock what sells best, but most ukulele players only play first position chords so what is the advantage of owning a tenor uke? Don't say more room on the fretboard please. 🙂 Keep up the good work Alex. I'm a regular viewer and I do appreciate all your videos.
@SouthernUkuleleStore

@@thebovrilhater We have 38 different sopranos in store right now. The advantage of a Tenor ukulele is added sustain, depth and more dynamics from the instrument itself (most of the time).

@@SouthernUkuleleStore perfect! Another question. I'm playing 1 year. I'm not so bad but not perfect as well. At the moment Im playing on the Korala UKC-750. Action strumming was too high so I had the strings lowered. No is not so bad but still I have problem with first fret. My question is how look action strumming in model jumbo ja-260g? Is this model suitable for a person still learning to play or more advanced? What kind of strings are you recommend? I'm using at the moment d'addario fluorocarbon and I'm happy but I didn't try all options. I will be happy if you answer. I'm almost sure that I want this model of ukulele :)
@SouthernUkuleleStore
@SouthernUkuleleStore 2 жыл бұрын
There is no straightforward answer because everybody is different. I would say that as instruments get better, they should only feel more refined and comfortable. I believe your current uke has a 35mm nut width too so this should feel familiar. The factory strings on the Jumbo millars are Daddario Fluorocarbons. I would recommend these or high tension uke logic strings to get the richer, deeper sound.
