And there is a shocking number of guns circulating in this country among civilians. I think we do need to say: It's crazy and it's unnecessary. There are far too many guns, there is no need for civilians to be armed with assault weapons.

I’m so sorry for every parent who’s lost a child from all of these school shootings from Columbine to Robb. So here’s a poem that I wrote that will hopefully acknowledge them. “Even though you went,” “A moment that just was too soon,” “We’ll remember all the time we spent,” “Whenever we gaze upon the moon,” “We’ll cherish the thoughts that you gave,” “Even though you all we couldn’t save,” “We will always mourn you from above,” “With thoughts and tears of those you loved,” “So let your new wings,” “Carry you high to the sky,” “So that the angels sing,” “And take you where nothing can die.” Everyone dies eventually. But even though you’ve left too soon, we as a nation will never forget you, all of you who died in these tragic incidents.

@@shawnhayes6938 Thank you. For my entire life, I just assumed death was just an inconvenience ever since some of my relatives died. But in 2015, I, unfortunately, also was a victim of a school shooting that never made the news as I just didn't want the parents of the three victims we had to turn on the TV, something their kids probably did, and listen to the constant reminders of their children's deaths. As I heard, "Children are supposed to bury their parents. Not the other way around." Besides, I also want to let these parents and survivors know that the world is there with them. That they aren't alone without their friends that tragically lost their lives suddenly.

I live in the third world and not even here this sht happens, I'm not sure what's going on in the US, dunno if anyone's studying it? cause it's strange AF. The fact that you guys let all those kids be slaughtered 10 years ago and so lil (to nothing) has changed should be embarrassing. Also I find it incoherent (to say the least in my limited broken English) that the same people trying to ban abortion laws are the same people asking to protect that fckng amendment for your precious guns.. Make up your mind, maybe?Life inside the mother's belly is precious but outside of it means nothing? Pls make it make sense. Americans are so so so so so weird. NOT ALL, I know that and that not all hope is lost but still...

The USA was founded on the concept of separation of church and state, but over the years conservative Christian religious groups have tried to enforce their religious beliefs over us all. They changed our money to read "In God we trust" and they put the phrase "under God" in our pledge of allegiance. Many of the population, including even our poor excuses for politicians, think that they need to swear in to public office on a Christian Bible when that has never been the case. Even when joining the military, the pledge they make you say has a line about their Christian God. The push to ban abortion is coming from the ultra religious Christian conservative groups who think abortions are an insult to their God and his plans. They would rather see little 12 year olds who were raped suffer to carry a child that it might kill the girl to give birth rather than allow abortions to take place. (I've met girls who went through this. It breaks my heart to know that children go through this in my country.) Every day for many years I drove past an anti-abortion billboard on my way to work, thinking it was only the opinion of a religious minority and possed no real threat to women's right to choose. My town recently passed laws encouraging people and medical professionals to report women suspected of having abortions. The United States is heading towards a scenario straight out of the Handmaids Tale books, and they're taking inspiration from nazism encouraging us to snoop into people's medical history and report them of what is now deemed a criminal act. The guns issue is supported by the same Christian conservatives mainly because we only have a two party political system. Conservative Christians tend to be Republicans, and they pretty much only ever vote the party line in elections. Less than half of Americans vote and most aren't even aware of the policies their candidates support, only that the candidate is either Republican or Democratic. Our politicians get a lot of money from the gun industry, so they're in no way incentivized to make any changes to gun laws. Gun enthusiasts don't want changes to gun laws, despite the fact that banning military type rifles would not affect the majority of gun owners who don't own them. They stick to straw man arguments saying the real issue is mental illness (which it partly is) and that we can't punish responsible gun owners for the actions of a few.

@@MexicanTeTe Thank you for such a detailed explanation!! Kinda confirms my suspicions and I can't help to get my blood boiling. Church and state should never ever meet, it makes no sense. Not to mention the fact that you don't need any evidence to 'believe' makes it all the more terrible cause.. how to argue?? How to disagree when they don't need to make any sense of wtv they believe in ahhhh it makes me so mad. There was a 'Karen' in Brazil a couple years ago mentioning by name this 10 yo girl who had be SA by her uncle, ended up pregnant and was authorized to get an abortion. Not only she mentioned her by name but also gave the address of the hospital they had to take her to be able to get an abortion so all those radical ppl were there screaming and trying to barge in... Again atp I wouldn't be surprised if something similar was to happen in the US and that is not good!! That division though, between two political parties... It feels like you're describing Latin America and that's also very bad for you guys, you don't wanna end up like us. Even your supreme court??? You're on your way to hell and can't see it. Not all of you!! Definitely not you, but one too many of you. 45 didn't win the popular vote but how many millions voted for him anyway? It's so concerning, it makes me wonder what you guys study in school! I wish you could study more international history to realize you're heading for some serious trouble there. Sadly for everyone including us, you guys have access to so many nuclear weapons, we're all in trouble if you guys are in trouble. Someone like 45 shouldn't be even the mayor of a city in the first world.

@@fi0rella Yeah. I actually left the USA for Latin America. At least in Latin American Catholic countries they do more to respect women's choice in these matters and the cartels and police are the only armed gunmen I need to avoid. The United States is falling more into the category of a "despotic third world country" every year, despite the fact that most Americans are ignorant of this. You shouldn't worry too much about the nukes the USA has. Even if a crazy president ordered an attack, it would still have to be approved and carried out by the military. The military has its own fair share of crazy religious fanatics, but they still have to follow regulations and international laws like the Geneva convention. I was in the military while Trump was president and he was saying stupid things like "we're going to bomb civilians overseas" and I went out of my way to ask leadership in a public forum who's going to stop us from committing war crimes? Who's really in charge and going to step up and say "no" when our own president is totally ignorant of international law? My job in the military literally trained me to learn how to politely say no to unlawful orders coming from higher ranking people. I do trust the military to have more common sense than the fools who keep getting elected like Trump, MTG, or Boebert. Military leadership actually have to earn their positions over their entire careers while these grifters only need to spend money and say offensive things loudly to convince morons to vote for them to get to where they are. The United States is a perfect case study for keeping the population divided politically and so focused on fighting each other that they don't even realize their own inadequacy and shortcomings compared to the rest of the world.

American culture is so very sick. It is incredible that this nightmare has only gotten worse. Every day in Columbus, Ohio - another shooting. Last year, we outdid ourselves. And all the Mayor of my town can say is that "this has to stop" - all the while, not enacting policies and dedicating money to the issues and needs of the communities - as if saying this has to stop is a magic pill that will make it true. If those we elect, regardless of party, cannot and will not make change, what are we to do?

Sorry to say - but I think your american government should just remove the 2nd amendment or change it. Its a man made constituition - which means it can be changed - its not carved in stone! I have been following the robb elementary shooting case - i have seen so many comments by americans who are pro gun and insist that the 2nd amendment be kept & refuse to acknowledge that banning future gun sales is a possible solution. But i think the 2nd amendment was for a different era - im sure the forefathers of america would be horrified if they knew in the future that this clause made easy for murderers to buy war guns to massacre innocent civilians. Other countries ban guns ( and buy them back from the public) because they had mass shootings and realised banning guns is part of the solution to reduce mass shootings. America however since 1980s until now today - it seems not only the politicians but many american citizens still refuse to take serious measures to keep their kids safe. The rest of the world looks on and wonders when the next mass murder is going to take place in America. The situation in America is beyond belief and sadness. - an observer from Singapore

Apparently you have been comatose if you think that guns are stealing your freedom. Can you show me a recent video that Couric has done addressing in the last ( I will make it easy) 4 years on the mass shootings in Chicago, Philadelphia. NYC, California Where 10 month olds just 2 years ago were getting shot in their strollers among many other children. Especially Chicago where every single solitary week if you double digit numbers of people who have been shot and single to double digit numbers of fatalities and how many hospitality children. For instance Fourth of July of 20 2071 people were shot that’s Fourth of July weekend, 17 fatalities and I believe eight were under the age of 17. That’s a normal occurrence that’s been going on for years. And by the way none of them are done with the guns, That are bought by a store who legally and lawfully by going through the red tape and filling out forms can sell firearms. Wear when you go to purchase that fire on you have to have a background check and the gun is registered. That’s not the guns that are being used that are killing all these people in Chicago on a daily basis. These are black market does that as of right now we’re being practical because Biden has an open water but have been traffic in Vis cargo from other countries. As a matter fact people in Chicago well children are the article yesterday from 1992 where her mother was walking her child to school and he got hit by open fire with a gun that was not legally registered that was not me in the United States of America it was a black market. So please do tell me no taking my dogs away from me as a legal binding system because we just love our beloved machines is going to stop those killings in all those cities that I put. That by the way are the majority of the fatalities, that happened by numerous different types of guns. They make up the majority of the killings in the United States of America. So one would have to think after decades of this happening who’s behind it all that it’s still going on the people to get guns on the black market that are crossing our borders via cargo ship or however else they’re getting. Must be somebody pretty high up there in the door and don’t say because nothings been done about it. But let’s just focus when there’s a school shooting because apparently the majority of the people who are always making comments like you do what you don’t care about The shootings that happened every single solitary day for decades now double digits every weekend. That always happened in black community. What am I think that somebody very Highup in our own legal system or political system or three letter agencies or whoever it may be is targeting black communities to stay devastated. Because for the life of me I can’t understand why there’s been no improvement but it’s getting worse. And again it has nothing to do with law-abiding citizens that have their guns registered and were bought from the legal store that sells them to keep them locked up. So the little condescending heartfelt , passive aggressive remarks , about “keeping our beloved machines” doesn’t hold water. I love the caring and voices for only school shootings. Shows how caring people really AREN’T But definitely show on line shills and so called journalist (shills) pushing an agenda and actually using the deaths of children who are dead because of those behind the agenda, to move it forward. While all is a deceitful atrocity to the American people. But greed is Evil. It definitely looks like having to harbor all the evil , especially in the last 2-3 years , is revealing itself on Couric. See it in her face. She really doesn’t look well at all. Actually her face reveals deep stress, deep worry and deep regret and despair. She looks like she’s aged 10 years in a year

It’s hard because guns are already a hard truth about American society. The issue would be a lot simpler if the right to bear arms wasn’t literally the second amendment or if guns weren’t already so common. Personally I’m in favor of a system where guns are obtainable, but an extensive background and mental health check are done in order to own one. That and perhaps mandatory training for a certain period of time. I could also see the banning of certain types of guns being helpful. Being too reactionary and banning firearms altogether could cause a lot of problems.

If you want to use those types of weapons so badly you should get a life and enlist/commission in the armed forces. Your first comment was 100% not factual. I don't have to of served in war with my family to support the 2A with them. Supporting them is honoring them. Lmao. I was factual, you're not. Only a handgun will be semi. No militaries primary rifle, m16, tavor, AK, etc, isn't select fire (full auto). Still a nonpoint as we should have everything they have.

If schools had the power to get these kids mental health help, we would like to. At this time, ONLY parents have that authority, even though the schools are seeing red flags all over the place. Those red flags are in every school record, but teachers have to be "politically correct" when writing those records. If a record states, " student does not choose words to solve issues with his peers" it means he is a bully and has anger issues that need to be addressed. When a teacher observes these things, they should be taken seriously by the administration/parents, but usually we are ignored or told to "stay in your lane". This should not be, especially since teachers and other students are the people who are affected!

I was born and raised in the house my mom was born in @ 1947 a mile away from sandy hook elementary. I grew up playing and spending a lot of my time in St Rose cemetery. never ever felt scared there. I have lots of my mom's family in there. my ancestor actually was "the first person interred in this cemetery"..... my family still serves in the ladies aux at the firehouse. I went to Hawley school (George washington and his army camped there during the revolutionary war. they also used the top of the flagpole as target practice and last I knew the same chicken with the bullet holes was still up there) till 4th grade when they did relocation and sent me where I should have gone since kindergarten. I spent one year at sandy hook school. the nursery school I went to was on the other side of the beginning of the school driveway. my brother and sister had their weddings at the firehouse. So sandy hook and Newtown are In my blood no matter how far I go. I do not know what it's like to lose my baby at sandy hook but I was brought back as well. my little hometown that was so unassuming and small and everyone knows everyone and usually everyone is in an old town family. these folks are my brothers and sisters, and I will always feel such love and compassion for them. I just can't even convey that with words, and I am so disgusted that we are still having conversations about assault rifles. it's absolute bullshit. if it was a child of a congressman or woman or anyone like Ted Cruz or governor abbot or anyone from the NRA maybe we might see action?? probably not. r. I come from a rough neighborhood, I can tell you that if someone wants to get hold of a firearm, they will, most likely any type they want. Illegally!! Criminals don't obey laws. The mentally sick don't even know what the laws are. We need to secure our schools, it's just the times we're living in. Open gates, open doors, no security, it's putting our children at risk every time we send them to school. Not everyone can afford private school, or home school, but until we secure our schools, I'm afraid we won't be able to stop criminals and the mentally sick people from getting in.

So more guns and train teachers to become sharp shooters so they can defend themselves? What if a teacher snaps and shoots a student or staff? What if a student steals a gun from a teacher and accidentally shoots themself or someone else? Why not just teach 8 year old kids & older to shoot guns and bring them to school so they are prepared to kill any future murderers who attack their school?Only in america - do people think that more guns will resolve mass shootings.🤦‍♀️ In most countries - steps were taken to ban gun ownership and sales and restrict guns to police/military only. Some countries the government even buy back the guns from the public to reduce gun presence in their country. While these solutions are not perfect for america - it is still better to take such steps instead of just introducing guns in classroom.
