10 years with tinnitus - the things I've learnt about living with tinnitus for a decade.
This is my first video about tinnitus, I wanted to share my journey to give more information about tinnitus and what I've learnt in the last 10 years of living with tinnitus.
My aim is to give a more positive narrative to tinnitus as I know first hand how difficult it can be, so I'm using this opportunity to shed some light on how I live with tinnitus, in the hope that it helps you too.
Along with my blog, I'd like to open up a conversation about tinnitus, and the experiences we all go through when living with tinnitus. I hope you enjoy this video, there will be more to come!

I have had tinnitus for 12 years. I have ear plugs on my keychain take them everywhere. I stopped drinking caffeine about 10 years ago. I habituated it years ago but has got worse as I have gotten older and now hearing loss. I am about to get a hearing aid which is fine.

Im on 16yrs now, sometimes Im used to it but still learning in this journey. to me isnt about a partícular food or drink, its stress. Of course drinking to much coffee or álcool isnt a good idea. For what Im learning is that TRT seems the way to go and trying everything that fights your stress. Thank You and stay strong!!

its been awhile since i visited anything tinnitus related online.. i always thought about making a video about my success tinnitus story but have been busy lately.. so im just gonna break this down fairly short paragraph.. my tinnitus started march 4th 2019..it was from playing drums and granted i have been playing music since i was 15 ( i am 31 now) so i am not new to ringing in the ear as i get those everytime i play shows etc but it would usually go away in a day or two.. but this time it didn't go away it was loud if i would rate the loudness it could easily be 10/10 i could hear it over a shower or driving vehicle with the windows crack open and so when the onset happened i started having panic attacks.. i suffered for about 14months of depression,severe anxiety,stress and a very bad insomnia.. fast forward when i started feeling better around 2nd year oh having it.. i do believe that the ringing will tone down itself but here's what most of tinnitus sufferer do not know is tinnitus is highly link from the gut.. meditation,massage or any supplement didn't really help me.. i got so much better when i started to address my gut problems and the ringing went from 10/10 to 2/10.. i believe that the reason some of tinnitus people hasn't gotten better through the years is that they have underlying issues.. i started eating meat did intermittent fasting everyday to clean the guts and all the toxins.. what was making my tinnitus worse was eating eggs,dairy,wheat pasta carbs thats when ur gut is stressed out and it is highly link to ur tinnitus... all the foggyness, fatigue,stress , insomnia went away... i live my life happily now and im back playing music again.. u guys should give it a shot and if u are momentarily is in bad shape like cant sleep or freaking out please please take a cold shower it will give u a very quick relief.. good luck tinnitus warriors...

Im 20years old and i just discovered yesterday that the sounds i hear when im in a silent room aren’t normal hahah. I have red that over time this can cause memory loss and mood changes in a person. And now listening to you explaining how you have problems understanding people talking i realize i have always experienced this kind of problems. Yesterday knowing that the cause of this was probably tinnitus stressed me out but at the same time gave me relief. I have always lived with it since a little boy and i haven’t ever questioned myself about it. Now i know how to feel about it and it helps me a lot. Thanks for sharing this it helped me a lot. Hope everyone stays safe and strong ❤

Hi, Thanks for telling your story that you have this already for 10 years. I can not exact remember how long I have tinnitus, and I start just on my vlog to talk about it. As I notice it now all day. If I hear your points then I notice that you talk more about that you do not hear all correct. And that is something you hear a lot. But one thing is for sure, saying there is not at all a cure for it is pretty hard, as I know it can come from a lot of things that can be getting better. For example if you have tinnitus from a infection in your ear you can get cured with cortisone.. Have heard that as well for others. And I have had it as well. (Did not work for me) I am now trying out hearing aids and they give during the day a good result. Looking now for the perfect one and I am talking about that as well in my vlog. So, in general there is always hope ! Aebe

Hi Beth had mine 4 months, mild hissing sound caused from sound induced hearing loss and age related hearing loss. My T just started all of a sudden one day like someone just flipped a switch. Trying to habituate to it. My ENT said my brain would eventually learn to ignore it. I’m 70 years old. According to the ENT my hearing loss is not severe enough for hearing aids. My main problem is mine spikes when using the riding mower even though I use hearing protection. That’s my story. Enjoyed your video.

How would you tackle this? Thanks Beth keep reaching for that rainbow 🌈 and making positive change.

Hi Lilly, I'd always say to be honest about how you're feeling, particularly with your manager (if you feel comfortable doing so). I think if people don't realise the effect it's having on you then they're unlikely to change their behaviour. It doesn't have to be accusatory but maybe just speaking with him and letting him know how you feel is a good step forward. It doesn't mean you can't have a laugh but maybe just set those boundaries. Hope that helps! :)

The more people I tell (friends, relatives), the more people I find have tinnitus as well or know of people who have it. I'm done with restaurants with loud music playing or TV screens on walls with blaring sound levels of sporting events. I have found that, if I'm fully engrossed in an activity eg oil painting, reading, cooking, exercising, etc I unconsciously become unaware that I don't hear the tinnitus but as soon as I realise it I hear it again. Weird.

Thank you for the great video. I found it especially helpful you said that it took you about 10 years to accept it, and that you still have bad days. I keep hearing different timeframes for "habituation", but what they all have in common is that they're faster than what I seem to be managing! 1 year and 9 months in and it still often feels like day 1 for me. :-S Was it simply time that caused the shift for you? Thanks again for putting a more positive spin on this anyway!

Hi, apologies for the delay! For me, i just stopped noticing it as much. I tried my best to carry on as normal and do all the things I enjoyed pre-tinnitus. Like I said, I do still have bad days but they're few and far between. I think you just get used to it, for example I can't remember what it was like without tinnitus now so it's not like I'm longing for my life pre-tinnitus if that makes sense?

Hey Beth. Amazing video! Really gave me some hope. As a student I often feel like I am sort of cheating when using sound to mask my tinnitus while studying and that makes me study in silence where I am not able to concentrate 100%. Have you ever felt like that? Also do you have a fear that it will get worse? Thats a fear of mine. Anyway have a nice day.
@BethologyScience
@BethologyScience 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ivan, thank you!! I always use sounds to mask when studying or even when working. I don’t think it’s cheating. I would say maybe practice doing work in silence if you’re preparing for exams as that will be silence (unless you can get extra support with that). I do worry that it will get worse but I try not to think about it too much. Hope you’re ok!

Great video, thanks for posting! Interesting fact, well, not really, although both tea and coffee contain caffeine, it's actually a slightly different kind of caffeine. So it's not unusual that coffee may seem to make your tinnitus worse but tea doesn't. I've said goodbye to coffee now, obviously, coffee lovers would struggle to do that and removing things you enjoy can depress you and make you feel even worse so aim for a balance. Try caffeine free coffee, it still has a slight trace of caffeine but it might help. I know what you mean about streaming services and subtitles, as far as I'm aware, both Netflix and Disney Plus offer subtitles on all shows/movies. Disney Plus now offers Disney Star which has loads of classic shows and movies, so far everything I've watched has subtitles, you can easily sign up, watch as much as you can in one month and then cancel it, the perfect crime! Well I must be off, I'm dropping off a jar of coffee at the train station, I'm going to run along side the carriage as it pulls away so I can wave goodbye to it.
@BethologyScience
@BethologyScience 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! Yes I drink decaf coffee, I like the taste and don’t drink it for the caffeine element. I tend to only watch Netflix and Disney plus these days because they have good subtitles, makes things a lot easier and there’s loads of good TV shows and films on both ☺️

I've had mine since December, it started in my right ear and now it's in both ears, I was just getting used to it being in my right ear then BOOM my left ear started ro ring. When I went for a hearing test the audiologist told me I don't have hearing lost, but now I have to go again for my left ear. I think the main issue for me was that I used peroxide and a q-tip to clean my ears a week ago and I was using disruptive earphones so hopefully I start getting used to both ears or the ringing goes down

Hey Devin, I’m sorry to hear that your tinnitus has gotten worse recently. I’ve had it since I was 15 and I’m soon to be 27, I can say that I have moments of it being worse but generally speaking I’ve habituated to it and it usually returns to my baseline. I’ve found that’s stress and anxiety make it worse for me so I try to manage that as much as possible as it perpetuates the cycle otherwise. Sometimes mine gets worse if I’m coming down with something, it’s almost like an indicator for me to take care of myself. Hope that helps and I hope your T manages to get back to your baseline!

@@BethologyScience thanks for responding to me it means a lot, i think maybe this might be just from stress and anxiety making it worse and keeping the cycle alive for a couple weeks. Hopefully it does go down to my old baseline. It’s interesting that u say yours gets worse when coming down with something I’ve noticed the same thing. It’s comforting knowing someone else out there not only has it but got it around the same time I did. Thanks so much again for taking the time to respond to me it really does help, best of luck with your T as well :) much love.

And i slept... After some time i got that ttttttttttt sound in my both ears.. I neglected it but on the second day it was constant and loud.... On third day i went to ENT and he said it is normal dont think about it and gave me bitahisten for 10 days but no results so on second meet he said to do hearing test i did it and it came normal no hearing loss But i felt my ears are sensitive to horns of vehicle and loud noise starts irritating me Three months passed but no results During allopathy i was in depression, lost weight and was not able to sleep at all ( insomnia ) Then i tried ayurveda and made some changes in my lifestyle neurobion forte helped a lottt And now it is around 2/10 Now i started studying Change your diet, do pranayam, stay hydrated, calm down and give it a time.Nowadays, i dont feel it anymore!! Watch julian cowan hill and dr mandell to calm it It will fade away😊 It took 4 months to recover and now im out of this hell If you need help then #8421280272

@@goupperninty Guys, there's NO CURE for tinnitus. But there are cure for some of the possible underlying causes, I'm not denying that. But when someone says "I've done X and it got rid of my T", it just means they were able to cure the CAUSE of the tinnitus. Sometimes the cause is never found or it's just natural age-related hearing loss and or it's due to sound exposure (like too much music with earbuds for years like in my case probably). In these cases there's no cure. Doesn't mean it won't get better and that your brain won't habituate, but if the T is still here after months/years, it's no use trying to cling to vaporous hopes of cure. Just accept it and follow professionally recognized CBT or something. HOWEVER maybe a true, effective cure will be find in the future. Who knows. But it doesn't exist today.

I’ve not heard of it, a quick Google suggests it’s not available in the UK (but I could be wrong). Have you tried it?

@@BethologyScience my ent has given it to me for 2 weeks cause I recently developed some ringing in my right ear. I'm 4 days into the course and not much as changed. He told me not to worry much cause I can only hear it for the 5 minutes before I fall asleep. I'll get back to you if I see any good results.
