I like how people talk about blocking cards because you might have a card that blocks it but just remember there are 4 cards made for each card so you're only blocking it 25% of the time that's it so if your thought process is like that you won't make it far in poker I block this I block that's a stupid way of thinking
@JonCookeBridge Жыл бұрын
Part of Doug’s edge is his mental toughness. Clearly Owen is technically strong, but his head went down today and he just stopped fighting for pots towards the end. Doug was huge plus EV if they’d carried on. By the way, that 79dd v AK on 8TQ5 two diamond turn. Went check - 70% on he turn, called by Doug’s AK. Given neither a diamond nor a Jack give you a nutted hand v calls, is shoving turn a thing with this hand, balanced by shoving bottom set which also doesn’t like rivers much.

it's an excuse that he's weak mentally. This guy probably plays more online and tables compared to duog, and he's young!
@JonCookeBridge Жыл бұрын
@@ifeelhalfnaked484 Just saying what I saw - his body slumped and he wasn’t playing as well at the end as at the beginning. I get what you are saying about volume online - he must regularly handle bad runs of cards to be successful there, so must have some ‘intrinsic’ mental toughness. Perhaps it comes down to experience live or perhaps he was tired - I expect handling pressure live requires practice in the live environment.

Hellmuth wouldn’t buy in for 100k against Doug, tho. He would get bodied and complain his way outta the Lodge in a few hours. D-Negs comes back to get some revenge from THE challenge? That’s a household poker name I wanna see take this action.
@vinni522 Жыл бұрын
He kept at 100bb deep, it is fine. The only requirement was to start with 100k, which Owen did. He was obviously not on his A game, it’s the right move and he didn’t walk off / slow played his way too the agreed upon play hours.

OMG! I love heads up poker from the best poker masters!!! At this high level they can go for thin value on hands below the top pair level! Actually most beginners often check back second pair as they are scared of being called by top pair! In fact I have seen Doug sometimes make amazing value bets such as betting with just FOURTH PAIR! But in order to make that value bet, Doug must put the opponent on a busted straight draw but caught bottom pair on the river! And because that opponent checked their option that was the clue of smelling the bottom pair being made on the river! And of course betting small is the way to go as of course you want the bottom pair to bluff catch you and call instead of folding!!!

from out of no where I am absolutely obsessed with this Owen guy. as someone who's just a poker pleb, im blown away at how he has the confidence (dont care about bank roll) to come out here and not only play Doug, but mathematically make incredible decision. if the poker community allows him, he could be a new who's who of the poker world. I'll never forget this guy for sure. I hope he doesnt fade back into online only irrelevancy

I get it he was tired. I think keeping it ~100bb was ( fair) although seemed weak sauce. But quitting early should have a penalty.

Doug is world class and one of his best attributes is being able to play long hours and maintain near his A game. Also he has soooo much experience playing against all types of opponents, and he can make accurate adjustments. Playing Doug over long sessions is not good for your bank roll.
@JonCookeBridge Жыл бұрын
I’d love to be a fly on the wall during Doug’s between session reviews with his coach. I’m pretty sure there’s a lot of work done overnight to find exploits and tendencies.
