Ok, so, the first one. They took a "Capitol Trencher", downsized its trenching wheel, and stuck it on the end of an excavator. It's still just a trencher.

@@LALSHOW I've worked behind Vermeer trenchers that eat through kalichi. Which tests out to 23,000lbs per sq. in., and is harder than concrete. The size of the wheel, and its width can be had with a smaller trenching unit. I'll admit the increased versatility with the excavator rig. But cost effectiveness for the years of underground I've done is questionable. I'm a journeyman pipelayer.
