I came down to type this. Since all four decks are budget, we can't see how un-competitive they are with real cEDH decks. They all lack adequate interaction for real cEDH, although they are stronger than a typical Commander deck.

@Tupiaz4 жыл бұрын
@@HypogeanSupremacy Kamigawa never had a high powerlevel. The problem was the powerlevel was very low and parasitic (only interacted with it self). Further problems was the lack of support of spirits in Mirrodin. Mirrodin's powerlevel was very high on the really insane level. Many cards are used or playable in many formats to this day. Since the are artifact cards the can be used in many combinations and decks. If I remember correctly the powerlevel had to be turned down because of the powerlevel of Mirrodin was so high. I don't know what you mean by Yuriko is a Kamigawa card. Ninjitsu is a mechanic from Kamigawa and many of the cards from the block naturally fits the deck because it synergies so well. However, the card is not from Kamigawa you can play a modern deck with Yuriko because she has never been printed in a modern legal deck (kamigawa is modern legal). Loved these games. I have a budget Godo deck that I threw together awhile back. I never play it anymore because it’s right in that awkward power level that it’s no fun to play at casual tables because it combo’s off too quick, but no fun to play at competitive tables because it isn’t fast enough. This encouraged me to take a serious look at it and maybe give the cEDH scene another shot on a budget.

I really enjoyed this one. I love that final point about cEDH being an attitude and style of play, it definitely rings true. It also struck a chord for me because it's definitely similar to how I like to approach decks, with concise core combos, quick play, and smart interaction and advantage options, even at a budget - certainly got me thinking about what I would bring to a game like this and I settled on Sai, Master Thopterist or Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain - artifact combo stuff is always pretty strong, even on a really strict budget

I'd be interested in seeing these decks actually competing with the high budget decks. The fact that all of the decks are budget ones is just re-balancing for your specific playgroup and everything is going to seem "competitive" when you're on an equal playing field. I feel like the episode with the budget Kenrith deck was probably a better showcase for the viability of cheaper decks.

Hey I know I'm late to the party but I couldn't find any top comments mentioning this, so I thought I'd still go ahead and write this. At 12:20, since Godo got removed, Helm wouldn't make a copy of Godo. On the other hand, if Helm is the one that gets removed, then you still get a token copy of Godo, even if Godo is removed together with Helm. This is according to the rulings on Gatherer on Helm: "If the equipped creature leaves the battlefield before the triggered ability of Helm of the Host resolves, or if there is no equipped creature, no token is created. However, if Helm of the Host leaves the battlefield while its triggered ability is on the stack, a token will be created of the creature it last equipped. If that creature has also left the battlefield, its last known information is used to determine what the token looks like."

This stuff is amazing! I love watching cedh and it looks really fun to play, but it's frustrating seeing such expensive decks. So glad I remembered to check this video, such great budget resources in this episode! For budget cedh I highly recommend Teysa Karlov, double death triggers are insane if people can’t keep her out of play. I had a deck that was around $150, including lands and the commander, that would win turn 6 or 7 almost every time. Mostly creature based so I ran all the cheap board wipes that hit all nonland permanents and then some, plus exile spot removal for artifacts, enchantments and creatures. Plus you can draw your deck and have the mana to cast everything just off death triggers, you don’t necessarily need infinite combos. It was a ton of fun, but most of my friends hated it because it was extreme orzhov control mixed with insane value. Board wipes become pure value engines and that is hard to deal with.

Gitrog looked weak to the untrained eye, but almost the entire time it was on the cusp of winning. Not having veil of summer definitely hurt. I'd recommend looking at Avoid Fate for the budget list. It's only a couple bucks and can save Gitrog from targeted removal on the turn you want to combo.
@chewdustfreeze3 жыл бұрын
What is the combo?
@JabeRaddle3 жыл бұрын
@@chewdustfreeze it’s pretty complicated, but basically if you have Gitrog on the battlefield, Dakmor Salvage in hand and a way to discard freely you can draw your entire deck and cast any and all spells from it infinitely. The way it works is you discard Dakmor which triggers Gitrog to draw a card. Instead of drawing you dredge Dakmor back to hand. If you dredge a land Gitrog triggers to draw again. You have an Eldrazi titan and usually Gaea’s Blessingg to shuffle your graveyard back into your library so you can continue doing this infinitely. You continue doing this stacking up draw triggers until you draw your whole deck. Then you cast rituals and other mana sources then discard your eldrazi titan to shuffle those rituals back into your deck, which now consists of just rituals and the eldrazi. You resolve some draw triggers you had saved on the stack and continue casting the spells to get infinite mana. You can do this same process with any instant speed spell in your deck. If you use an Emergence Zone during the combo you can do it with any spell, not just instants. There are tons of ways to win from the position of having an empty library. My preferred way is casting Praetor’s grasp infinitely exiling all my opponents libraries and using mana from infinite lotus blooms to cast every spell in their decks. That’s just for style points though. The most efficient way to win is to either praetor’s grasp their win con, like Oracle and Consultation, or use one of the loops involving Deathrite Shaman or crop rotation for lands that do direct damage to opponents. You can read the full documentation for the deck here: docs.google.com/document/d/1Rf1T5pZsL42jv0dF85JVSo4AUD5W_AOfW03NXNOzyAU/edit

Firstly, I did enjoy this video very much. Both the premise and the gameplay were cool to see. As a person that unironically brings a 30$ Yasova Dragonclaw deck to cEDH night with friends, I can appreciate budget builds. Having said that, what is still unclear to me is what makes this cEDH instead of high powered/optimized "regular" commander. Is it the focus on a concrete plan (for example: dramatic scepter, Godo helm, stacking turns, etc) rather than a "theme" (+1/+1 counters, tokens, pillow fort, etc)? Is it the lack of "pet cards" so as to make room for efficient ones? Maybe I am just too hanged up in semathics on an already very subjective topic. Still, adding a budget to cEDH (not saying it is a bad thing) blurs the line between it and regular high-powered EDH too much for me. TL;DR: With a budget, is this truely cEDH? Who cares? It is a good video and a nice initiative.

I would enjoy another video detailing an order of upgrading each of these. What are cards that you would add to each deck if it weren't for budget. What order would you add them if you were buying them one or 2 at a time?

Glad you mentioned this! We will be doing a small series after this, called "Budget List Makeover". Stay tuned for that.

@@PlayingWithPowerMTG Awesome! I've already bought the Yuriko deck and I opened a notable commander legends agent that will be the perfect first upgrade. ;) Can't wait to see your recommendations!

This is amazing! You almost convince me to try cEDH... I may try to build a budget deck soon :)
