The reason mobs weren't spewing in on days I think 27-29 that's because you weren't close enough to that layer for them to be rendered so they should've spawned but you weren't close enough for them to spawn if you were just chilling on like the gold floor for a few minutes there would've been quite a few mobs spawning

That and where he saw the light leaking through on the corners of the slab roof caused it to not he 0 light around the edges of the spawning platform. If he did a full plank roof it would have improved performance had he also been closer. Mobs spawn when you are further than 24 blocks away and closer than 128 blocks away BUT if you are between 32 and 128 blocks away then the mobs also have a chance to despawn and more than 128 blocks away they all despawn.

Also, passive mobs count towards mob cap. So, that's why no mobs would spawn underneath all his cows and chickens

You don't have to use dispensers for the farm. You can simply replace them with normal blocks with trapdoors in front of them. Just place the trapdoors in front of the row of normal blocks, and click them so they open up and away from the normal blocks, and dig down 1 row beneath them. Fill that row with water, and then another row of water placed against the normal blocks. Run your redstone the same way. Simple and effective.

Great video! Another thing that could be beneficial; enchanting netherite rather than diamond gives better enchantments! Netherite has 15 enchant-ability while diamond has 10! (Gold being the highest but who enchants gold anyways)

The mob farm probably didnt work better in the beginning because anything thats not a full block let’s through light. I use it in builds (layer of glowstone + layer of stairs/slabs) to light things up

i believe that a loose checkerboard pattern (four cane around each water block, then another water block two spaces away on each side) is the most efficient for cane farms but i dunno for sure since you only have one chunk in this one.

I think mobs didn’t spawn on day 30 because the passive animals took up the mob cap so nothing else could spawn. I don’t really know because passive mobs might not affect mob caps.
