I bought the Magni 3 practically as soon as it released and have been thoroughly enjoying it with the Modi Multibit DAC. I am looking to upgrade soon though and have been eyeballing the THX789 for sure. Might replace the Mimby too for something with DSD & MQA capability. Any advice? Hey Z, I like your idea of improving the build quality of the Atom and raising the price 30 or 40 bucks. I was thinking the same thing. Also, I think they should lower the price of the A30 to around $80 and then it would be a great deal! I see that they have actually raised the price to $110 on Amazon now. That’s crazy! Chinese shit: amazon is a no go. I paid 240$ cad for both the A30 and D30 which (if they would cost the same amount) would be 120$ cad for each or 90$ usd. Dilema in Canada is that Monoprice stuff is expensive and USA based stuff is ridiculous because of the import fees. At the end of the day, the topping stack bought on AliExpress was the best deal (by far).

I find it interesting you never mention the O2 amp that started this all. We wouldn't be here without NWAVGuy, and the O2. Also, the Magni and O2 were the ONLY two options in this price bracket (especially U.S. made) for the better part of 4 years.

@@EvanZamir The thing with the o2 is that for $99, the atom is better. It's much more cleaner in terms of output, less distortion, and I believe it's a bit more powerful than the 02 as well. The o2, while amazing, has been "updated"/ surpassed by the atom.

Zeos! Try this trick with the Geshelli Archel: put your Schiit SYS between the Archel and a DAC. Turn the Archel all the way up and the attenuator on the SYS all the way down. Play music and slowly turn the SYS up until the Archel is as loud as you would ever want it. Now you have a full range of volume with any headphone and any source on the Archel!

This was before Zeos found the Loxjie P20. I have the Magni 3, P20, Liquid Spark and JDS Labs Atom and they are all excellent headphone amps for the money. They are so good that the law of diminishing returns rapidly approaches once you exceed the $100 price point for a headphone amplifier. And the better the quality of the audio files you use, the better these amplifiers scale. They are a true HiFi bargain, and can be part of an affordable endgame system.

I got the Sound BlasterX G6 for 1049 SEK in December and I would be very interested in how that compare. I didn't intend to keep it and haven't listened to it because I figured the motherboard may be good enough and it doesn't have a built in battery and hence may not be great for portable use but I kinda wonder if it's superior to the other options and one could use an USB power bank I assume. Guess you won't test it real quick but .. =P I have an ASUS B450-F motherboard now and had X470-F before and I'd assume I may get an X570-F with Zen2, the phone I'm looking into is an LG G7 and if I buy headphones now I guess it's most likely the Sennheiser HD58X and V-Moda ones though I haven't listened to either.

Awww, the 789 only comes with a US power brick, and it's massdrop only meaning a lot of VAT and customs fees :( Can anyone recommend a few alternatives to that amplifier? Then I can check myself and see if there is a EU distributor. Topping A30 is different (or even simply less good) because it has a cheap op amp (replaceable) and has a higher output impedance (10 ohm for the 1/4 inch output and 30 ohm for the 3.5mm). But it may also be the only option at a reasonable price for anyone outside the US

Agree, you can't buy schiit, jdb labs or many other dacs or amps in Japan. They cost stupid amount of money. Easier to beg someone in the USA to send it to you. I got myself A30 + D30 and enjoy it. I am not sure if Zeos enjoying the "color" that other amps add or there actually better quality. For replacement op amp, there some positive feedback on LT1364CN8 and LM4562NA. Looks like I should pay a visit to Akihabara and grab some op amps...

I was going to buy the Magni Schiit stack, but after watching this video and reading several reviews think that I'd be better going with the Liquid Spark instead of the Magni 3... Any 100$ DAC should do the trick perfectly, my personal preference is the OL DAC from JDS labs, like the Atom it also has the best numbers.

The multibit modi measures extremely poor, if numbers mean anything to you. I actually did an a/b test with Modi 3 and modi 3 multibit and found the Modi 3 to sound better to me. Hard to explain in audiophile terms why...but the multibit did not sound as clean, like it had an underlying layer of fuzz. Take it with a grain of salt...we all hear differently.

If the positive and negative are different lengths then you gain capacitance (when they are long enough, maybe even coiled), I haven't heard what it sounds like but in house wiring, your light will stay on even when you switch it off. Anybody know about jds labs atom vs Magni 3 or even 3+ or heresy for specifically the HD 58x jubilees?

Stiles o_0 I haven’t ordered any yet but ive most likely decided to go with the jds labs atom because I got some amazing feedback from someone who said the atom knocks it out of the park. I believe these are all good amps I have heard there’s some issues with the Magni 3 wheel and noise sometimes but as for 3+ and heresy i haven’t heard any complaints yet and only complaint about atom is it’s build quality which isn’t a concern for me. They’ll all sound good, I’ll try and let you know more once i have the atom and headphones in front of me

ive seen these amps are for home use, but i cant seem to decide what amp to use for portable use :/ its for my new audio technica ad500x . please not too expensive either, the cheaper the better

Finaly a really great Speaker, that looks like the Genelec 8331....well check the 8351 o understand what is a great speaker...but expect quality ...not volume

I am getting the spark, to pair with a topping dx7, DAC/Amp, now i feel like i should hold up for the 789 cause everyone keeps saying how good it is, replacing the magni 3 because of garbage construction that has cause buzzing and is the most irritating thing ever.
