Really amazing work, may I ask what kind of brush you are using, for me it is very “big” compare to what I use for fine details but has a nice tip and reserve. I see you using it so versatile and would love to test on my own.

It has been many, many years, painting as a professional, always looking for the highest quality that I could in each figure. It is like a puzzle for me, I try to solve each aspect of the figure in the best way. And finally, I love playing with colors hehe.

@@grigoristsachouridis335 Heya, you can search color theory tutorials pretty much anywhere. There are a bunch on youtube if you want them free. I could breakdown the decision making in this video, but that would take a good long while. The really simplified version is the light that come from the top is considered to be from the sun so warm colors (yellow, red, beiges...), the bounce light that comes from below and is mostly seen reflected in the metallics comes from the sea, so he went with green. In general bounce light is in the less illuminated areas, so you would usually go for a cold color as those are prefered for shadows areas (green, blues...). The metalics are usually neutral or cold (the whole grey range), but are affected by the colors and light around them. As they are neutral they can bridge the warm tones of the upper body with the cold tones from the lower while doing so gradually. As an aside, I believe Sergio starts with a brown coat because it is more natural, can be more easily blended towards other colors such as skin and gold for example, and can be used as an intermediary color between warm and cold: it connect with reddish tones as it contains red itself, and can go to green through yellow as a mid color. If you want the absolute basics, then take any old color wheel: the colors that are next to each other are closely related and blend easily into one another. The colors that are on opposite sides contrast the most with each other and are jarring when put directly next to each other (those are the so called complementary colors). There is a whole lot to talk about but I'll stop there. Good luck learning more, cheers.

very nice paint job. As a designer and creator for over 40 years, I have a question. Why do all of these miniature videos on youtube talk about how many hours you spent on a project. In our day we did not talk about this, you were charged by the project not by the hour. Is this a millennial / genZ thing... A PROJECT TAKES AS LONG AS IT TAKES, PICASSO NEVER WOULD TELL YOU HOW MANY HOURS Guernica TOOK, OR ANY ARTIST / DESIGNER / CREATOR... why this obsession on how many hours, its meaningless info, another person could take longer or shorter time... does it really add any value than maybe just ego? and ego for what? ASKING FOR A FRIEND.. :O)

They are different fields. I show my art to inspire and share with all those who wish to enjoy this hobby. For many years I have been painting with very limiting techniques in search of maximum speed, instead of cheating and say this you paint in 2h, I prefer to be honest with my public and say, this is how I paint and it took me 100h, so take it with patience, enjoy the process and you will get very good results. I seek to encourage rather than frustrate. Check out my videos or my online academy, where I teach many painters. I hope my comment will help you to see my work with different eyes.

@@Sergiocalvominiatures i like the honesty, just so if you try and replicate it you know that for mere mortals it will take 200 hrs not 100 :) but seriously, its good so you know that to achieve this level it will take a looooong time, and so when after only putting 20 hours in you dont get disheartened about your results in comparison

I like to learn things so they make sense, the more I learn the more it makes sense. I almost felt like first base coats were blood under the skin mixed with sun, then skin tone with light and blood bouncing out, then skin, then sun reflections in skin. Not sure if that's how your brain was working but the 1st 5 min made intuitive sense - You lost me on the rest. Jk Thanks for making this content to help push skills, always incredible.
