Hey there KJ! I bought your plans and parts list about 6 months ago, haven't gotten around to starting the project just yet. My biggest issue so far has been trying to find A arms. my understanding is that I cannot use two sets of front A arms for this build (front A arms in the front and front A arms in the back). That being the case, Is there a different ATV model i could find IRS a arms that would fit your plans? I am also curious what the eye-to-eye measurement is for the shocks used. The reason I ask all this is I have found it extremely difficult to find a polaris 525 IRS in any useable condition, and the rear suspension parts are equally as difficult to find it seems. if you know of any places to find them that I don't know about, that would be much appreciated!
@KJRaycing Жыл бұрын
Hey, thank you for joining in on the fun! Rear a-arms are included in the plans. They have worked great on everyones builds. The shocks are roughly 16” eye to eye but the chassis is pretty easy going as far as shock mounting so they don’t meed to be a specific length. You can use polaris predator front shocks on all four corners as they are very similar to the outlaw shocks. I’ve been picking them up for under $100 each on ebay. The ktm 525 is definitely my favorite but all kinds of different engines have been used with great success. I hope you get started soon, we all love new builds!

This guy here is someone who truly wants to show someone how to do something because every other video you could find someone trying to do this is spending thousands of dollars or is not showing you how to do it correctly this man here is an example of someone who could do something correctly and cost-effectively. I was gonna build one of these over the summer, and I had no clue where to start but this man here showed me how to get started correctly and at the same time it looks pretty cost effective so if the man who made this video sees this, I would love to say thank you and you could truly do good work in the world

Thank you! When it comes to fabrication, the hardest part is to start. Once you bend, notch and weld your first piece it's all downhill. This looks way more fun than an ATV. I think that would be a good donor source for all kinds of components, in fact almost everything except the frame. You could probably use much of the front and rear frame clips for the suspension....just fabbing up the cage and cockpit area.

Yup! That was the idea. And man does it work well! I do make tabs for the suspension just to customize it and align it correctly, but yes. The VF-1 Chassis is a blank canvas for however you want to set up a single seat kart.

Very cool. The only thing I would have done differently. Make adjustable shock mounts on the top side. ( 3 or 4 different positions 1 .5 inches apart) You have alot of mechanical leverage working against the coils in you current setup. Moving them out to a more upright position (might help out for different tracks) will give you maximum spring pressure. One more thing. No background music when your driving. We want to hear the engine noise.
@KJRaycing Жыл бұрын
Well that is the beauty of this, you can build it however you want 😁. I did the math on the suspension before I mounted it if you check the channel. I’ve been driving this for over 2 years and couldn’t be happier with the setup; mounted outboard the shocks are a little stiffer and there is less travel with lower ground clearance for smooth/asphalt. Mounted inboard softens the shocks a little, increases travel and clearance for rough/off-road. Exactly as I had planned. You have a lot of good insight on how to make everyone else’s anything better. Maybe you should start your own channel and do some builds so everyone can leave comments like yours to “help” you… Thank you for the “very cool” compliment, and I ask you SHOW us the rest of your comment to back up your theories 👍 I wish you the best.
@NBC_NCO Жыл бұрын
@KJRaycing Very nice response, but I was never picking on you. Appreciate you taking the time to explain the details. How to back up my theories ... you'd have to look at race cars with their adjustable suspension . Gumpert makes a production car with front and rear adjustable suspension or even hobby grade RC cars. I have well over 700 videos. Not all of them deal in suspension. You're more than welcome to check them out Ooops. Gumpert is no longer in business. But you can still read about it.
@KJRaycing Жыл бұрын
I know you weren’t picking on me, no one ever is. A small detail is that I made the most of my $350 used atv shocks instead of opting for a full race setup. The 100hp Crosskart cost me under $4000 to build. Comments like yours are for big budget race cars. It’s all perspective, man. I personally try not to help anyone unless they ask for it, guess I’m weird like that. Keep doing your thing and I hope you get the chance to build an awesome machine. -Kyle

@KJRaycing I don't have the budget of you. I dream a lot. My garage space is barely big enough for my table saw and one vehicle. Awesome job, I appreciate and definitely notice your fabrication skills, just a heads up, if you throttle up on those jumps it will level out the buggy, just from listening to the sound, when you guys hit the jump, you instantly let off the throttle, causing your nose diving that you guys are experiencing. Go the speed your comfortable at hitting the jump, then once you hit the jump, pretty much go full throttle. You usually wanna hit jumps in a lower gear so you can get your rear wheels up to speed faster while in the air to level out your vehicle.
@KJRaycing Жыл бұрын
Thank you. It always takes guys a few jumps to figure that out but we film all of them, I left the first few in there to show the front end doesn’t dirt dart when you are learning how to jump. I’ve ridden dirt bikes for 20 years so I know about goosing it on the lip. Once guys (and gals) figure this out they can’t get enough!
