Your reno result is great. I brought in 5 yards of soil for my recent full reno with 100% KBG seeds. and yes, sooo many weeds popped out. Tenacity bleached some of them, but many are green and happy growing lol. my only concern is poa annua and especially trivialis. I did reno cuz of poa triv and mixed grass types, and it's possible to deal with poa triv again. that's the chance to take but it sucks cuz I have spent a lot of money for this renovation as well.

It looks like your a twin cities guy, I just moved to cottage grove this winter and I am gearing up to transform my lawn to fairway. Not sure what I have right now, I’m sure it’s probably blue grass. My plan was to scalp scarify and top dress with sand as soon as the snow is gone. Overseed next, but I can’t make a decision on conifer(3/4” cut is what I’m after) then plug, top dress and overseed in the fall. I’d love to hear your thoughts on conifer since we’re probably neighbors and deal with the same issues.

@codysmith85783 жыл бұрын
the triv will stand out a lot in the very early spring and that's the best time to get out there with a pocket knife and continually chip away at it (if you have the patience for it). Consider switching pgr to anuew, as it seems to ding the triv way harder than desirable kbg, which is not the case with t-nex. i had tons of triv after my mazama reno this spring and the pocket knife/anuew strategy worked for me in sioux city. good luck!
@LAWNLIFE3 жыл бұрын
I've been attacking the triv with a pocket knife and screwdriver all fall (the ones I can see). I know there's a lot that's hiding that will pop up in the spring. This is some of the best advice I've gotten, so I really appreciate that. I'm definitely going to attack it this spring no matter how tedious it may be. I know once it gets out of control, it's game over. I'm gonna do my damndest not to let it get to that point. Thanks for watching and the advice man!

I've been waiting for this update for a while. I renovated my front yard and could not get seed down until the second week in September due to no grass seed in my area. I went with a 80 KBG & 20 Rye in hopes of getting it established late. Luckily for me it has worked out. Just a few nights of freezing temps, but mild temps during the day 50's and low 60's. I have a few miscellaneous weeds, but the crab grass is all over. I'm assuming it came in with my Turf Builder soil. I will deal with the weeds next spring after it thaws out.
@LAWNLIFE3 жыл бұрын
Crabgrass is definitely not a big deal. Can take care of most weeds in the spring. Glad it all worked out for you with the late start!

@jimshorts59703 жыл бұрын
I always had great results with Barricade preventing poa annua but never knew about poa trivialis in OK. If it was present then apparently it prevented it as well. Of course down there we had mostly Bermuda lawns so you could nuke it in late winter when applying the spring dose of barricade. Those who did have fescue or rye in their shady areas, like nearly my entire front yard, didn’t really have to worry about poa or crabgrass because they thrive in the sun. The transition areas where the fescue met the Bermuda were the toughest because if you got certain grassy weeds creeping into the fescue in late winter you couldn’t use glypho unless you were going to do a spring overseed, which didn’t work too well down there.
@LAWNLIFE3 жыл бұрын
The pre-em will definitely help with the triv seed but not so much with the stolons.Hope you're keeping it all at bay. It's a tough pill to swallow when you find it.
@Wildpony983 жыл бұрын
My new seeding (bare lot/new construction), was planted mid August and I fought the heat for almost a month solid. The grass came up with thinning areas but stalled out and never has needed mowing (yes I watered plus heavier rains from mid Sept -mid Oct). I've seen the vids on the sprout and pout syndrome of KBG but thought by now it would do something. It doesn't look dead it just looks like it is rooting and hopefully will come up strong next spring. After almost 3 months though it is pretty frustrating. Esp if it still looks like crap going into next summer.

That little strip from the tree around the side could be from the dog peeing against the tree
@AlmightySimian3 жыл бұрын
If I were to guess about that spot next to your tree, your soil is probably very compact in that area. That one line that always grew better than the rest is likely one of the major roots for the tree, which has loosened up the soil somewhat

The best practice against triv is to kill it in early spring. Summer is too late as it was already dormant in your lawn. I've had excellent success with roundup in early spring. Unfortunately it will come back in your case this time around. Other than that, lawn came in awesome .
