To me, the Bf-109 is always a pretty airplane. I prefer the rounded wing tip versions such as this "F" model (maybe a "G" ?), over the earlier "E", the rounded wing tips taking away the edginess of the square winged Messerschmitts. Wonderful glider, well done.

for sure, but it's tough since there's a bit of a rotor there, certainly a rapid drop in windspeed near the ground near the edge - it keeps us on our toes and we usually land further back from the edge

Be interesting to see on a slope with more lift and some ballast a fighter that size looks best with lots of energy, my Mig15 can float about in light lift like that but on a big lift slope really hauls along. The video of my Mig 21 shows it on a similar light lift slope, luffing about planes like these look impressive with energy, just the wind doesn’t always allow. Will make another Mig with a ducted fan for those windless days next.

@yanmanman
@yanmanman 5 жыл бұрын
@@thenatedog oooh, interesting - there's no better test than to hold up the plane to feel whether the wind lift is sufficient - the plane will sort of fly in your hand, and you can feel both lift and drag with the plane still balanced with the fore-fuse held lightly in your hand prior to launch - sounds like it may be more of a 20 knot plane, but depends on the slope as well - glide ratio is not affect by weight, so it comes down to slope steepness and wind speed

How many minutes can you soar for on one battery? I imagine you can get upwards of 20 minutes or more.

not sure what he has in that plane, but with modern lipo batteries, hours and hours of flight, basically all day, are possible since there's no motor. it used to be that the transmitter batt would give out after a couple hours using old nicads

yeah, some refer to such planes as "floating gasbags, lol, wouldn't do well in a dogfight - myself, i'm partial to aerodynamics and higher speeds, but these guys adapted it as a lightweight conversion from rubber band powered model and for smaller hills and light to moderate winds and cannot take the stress of even a loop - scale flying a 1/4 scale model would require very high winds and larger hills and a much heavier model although some guys are doing amazing diving and climbing at cliffs in california with large heavy models - maybe someday :)

this is wrong on so many levels, to see a BF109 going slow is just not right. Put an engine in that thing
@yanmanman
@yanmanman 3 жыл бұрын
Someone else said something similar, but this is an extremely light and flimsy plane meant to be a rubber powered model, with very low wing loading, so it flies like a floating gas bag. Ballasting it with weight would let it slope faster, but it might not survive the wing loading. There are other smaller PSS models including 109s that zip around much faster if you check some of the other videos for Lawrencetown Slope Fest.
