100-play Video Poker at $25 Per Spin at a Reno Casino - Session #2

Steve Bourie, from the American Casino Guide book, and his wife, Michelle, show video from their second video poker session at the Silver Legacy Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada in June 2021. They were playing 100-play, 5-cent, jacks or better, with a 9/6 pay table. They were making max bets at $25 per hand (100 hands at 25-cents per hand) and their starting balance on the machine was $773.50.
Their three-night stay at the hotel was free, along with $75 in free play, plus a $75 resort credit. Their goal was to put about 500 points on their players club card to keep getting more free room offers, as well as any other benefits offered by the casino for their video poker play. Michelle plays the game and Steve gives commentary on the session as it is played.

The only issue is that there aren't any 100 play machines near where we live so we have to do them while on vacation. We are putting out a spin poker video later today, that is about the best we can do down here

My wife and I came over from Auburn and were at the Silver Legacy the day it opened. It was crazy in there. For no reason, I have only been back once. I liked the looks of the place. Since I now live in the Reno area, I only ply my KENO in the little locals places out of downtown.

I'm not trying to be one of those people that picks at a video. This is actually meant as an honest question. At 1:39 into the video you hold the Q I found this strange because the software I bought off your site says to hold the 9857. Do I have the settings wrong in the software or did you simply make a mistake? or do you just not go for the long shots? I noticed this in some of your videos so I'm just wondering if I'm missing something here. And thanks for all the great videos.

Do you by chance by duces wild?? My favorite game.

Matt prefers playing deuces wild but Steve prefers the lower volatility games like jacks or better. Another issue is I feel like good paytables on deuces games are harder to find and the strategy can change a lot more from one paytable to another on deuces so it is harder to play at optimal strategy unless you do a lot of research before a trip.

I went harrahs Rincon so cal this Sunday and tried this machine to get my points also and I hit pretty good started with 300 was down to 223 after 410 points on my card and hit four 4's delt and it paid 1024 but I was on the 2 cent denomination :( thank you the great videos

At one point, you had A, 10, 9 of hearts, but you only held the A. Any reason you didn’t those the 10 also? Is it because there was another heart on the board? I thought A 10 suited should always be held, if theres no other face card.

No you actually don't hold A10 suited because there's too much to fill in AND because only getting a second A will get you paid, getting a second 10 will still make you lose

Enjoy your play videos very much and appreciate your tips on strategy. Can you please explain why when you’re dealt a suited ace with a suited 10 you only keep the ace any other non suited high card instead of the suited 10? Also where in Reno are you playing? Thank you.

That is because if you hold A10, you need to fill in 3 cards in between to get a straight and ONLY those 3 cards. Even if you hold the K10, you still need to fill in 2 cards in the middle but the 5th card can be either the 9 or the A so it doubles your chances of getting it. And this was at the Silver Legacy in Reno

I always wondered if you get dealt A K J say off suit, why do you only keep the K J in basic strategy and not all three cards?

I believe it is because AKJ is a double inside straight draw which is the hardest thing to fill in. So if you ditch the A, you have an extra chance to pair up the K or J.

I heard that video poker players don't much comp, at least not as good as the slot players. Is that truth?

More or less, yes. The main reason is that most casinos require more coin in to earn a point on video poker than they do on slot machines. This is because casinos know the house edge is lower on video poker than slots so they don't want to comp as liberally because they know they won't make as much money.

Even on the worst VP paytables you still have a return of about 96% if played right, while on a penny slot machine were you can EASILY bet more than $1.25 a spin (the amount bet on a single line of video poker at $0.25 level) the payback is only going to be around 88-90%
