I bought a whiskey barrel to use as a rain barrel outside. It's not particularly old, just discarded from the distillery. It has 3 one-inch holes in the side for venting. What's the best way to stopper those hole to make it water tight?

I would take a oak - if this is the wood of the barrel - branch and cut it to fit the holes. It will look like a plug from the distillery.

If you want to stay traditional and make it watertide you can take reed leaves. But my old wood was too dammaged.

@@DrMatthewHudson Hmmm, maybe a kind of Silicone. The Whiskey producers used a kind of sugar syrup, but I dont know much about it. I would go with Silicone - flexible, food safe. I would use it from the inside.
