If you go to the exact frame, and pause you see it coming from the wings/armament pylons area. If you look up an AH-1W (the one in the video), you can see that there are flare dispensers mounted just inside of the outboard pylon.

LtCol. Blot was my first CO at VMA-231, Cherry Point, NC. In 1982! 15 years later his son was my OIC in QA at VMAT-203. Semper Fi.

@Alex R: Harry and I worked closely together at NavAir, when he was the AV-8B and then the V-22 Program Managers, and I was heavily involved in the A-6 and EA-6B Programs. After we both retired, we again worked very closely on the JSF/F-35 programs at Lockheed Marin, Fort Worth. General Blot was a SUPERB aviator, engineering test pilot, leader, officer, manager, Marine and man . . . Absolutely none better, and damn few his equal. I’m proud of our friendship and of what we (along with many other fine teammates) accomplished. And, as you may know, General Smith’s abilities and contribution to the Corps and to aviation were also legendary. Furthermore, his son, Captain Vincent Smith (USNA ‘76) was tragically KIA in Beirut on 23 October 1983 (one of our first comrades-in-arms to be lost in Western civilization’s war against Islamic terrorism). We live in an era when only ONE Millennial or GXer in FIVE HINDERED will ever serve and sacrifice for our nation in the Armed Forces. Therefore, all the perfunctory “thanks for your service” notwithstanding, MANY Americans are entirely clueless concerning what is required to ensure liberty for our succeeding generation(s). Simply stated, the lives of men like Harry Blot, Kieth Smith and Vincent Smith are outstanding, inspirational examples of why we are free. May God bless them always.

Then, (and I know this sounds un-intelligent) why do many aircraft on Marine helicopter carriers, like USS Wasp, have Marines painted onto the aircraft. Like harriers for example.

First .... you spelled aviation wrong. Second, I am an Marine aviator. Third, I wrote a book on Marine Aviation. Fourth, when I say Air Corps ... it carries an affiliation to the side of the Marine Corps that deals with aviation. At no time did I say Marine Corps Air Corps. If you are a Marine ... and specifically, in the aviation community, you would understand that.

Actually the Marines only get 6% of the DOD budget compared to over 31% (+) of what the Army gets. The Navy ... which both the Navy and Marine Corps is under the Department of the Navy ... gets about 22%. The Marine Corps is not under the Navy ... the Secretary of the Navy, a civilian, approves of actions independently for both the Marines and Navy. Damn ... you Soldiers are not very smart ... that is probably why you need over 5x more money to do what we Marines do for better the job.
