In Link's defense, pillsbury crescent rolls were invented in 1965. Original pigs in a blanket were sausages wrapped in bacon in the UK, rather than wrapped in crescent roll dough. The US version can be traced back to at least 1940, when a US Army cookbook lists "Pork Sausage Links (Pigs) in Blankets" - canned biscuits (rather than flaky crescent roll dough) came about in 1931.
