I was a Middleschooler in the Early 90s I still remember my Lunches Monday - Cheeseburger and fries day Tuesday - Tacos, Burritos, and Spanish Rice Wednesday - Spaghetti with Meatsauce Thursday - Chicken burger day with french fries Friday - Chicken Nuggets, Fries, and a dessert. Soda Machines were in the cafeteria, Along with a Concession stand thing that sold any kind of candy or chips you could want. along with the Daily dessert option, usually cookies, cake, or cupcakes. crazy what you remember if you really think about it.

Man, nowadays in my middle school we got ungrilled “grilled” cheese. It was the two thinnest slices of bread I’ve ever seen, with a 2 inch by 2 inch slice of cheese in the middle, all of it wasn’t even grilled, just raw and cold. Not to mention that in elementary we got hamburger patties that were green, and lukewarm “hot” dogs. But the pizza and chocolate milk was exquisite.

Peanut butter sandwiches on their own aren't bad, but you have to mix a dollop of syrup in with the peanut butter first. It also helps if you're using something other than plain, white bread. Sourdough, for example, is a far better option and makes for a much tastier sandwich, imo.
