Hell yeah, Eastern Europeans are known for importing old German cars once they stop meeting their local standards and these vehicles start their new lives here. We take care of the bare-minimum maintenance required, cover up all the imperfections, perhaps perform a slight mileage adjustment, and we feel like hot shit driving them around 😎Then it's off to a used car dealership advertised as a mint-condition car barely used by its first and only German owner for trips to church on Sundays. 2005-2008 era cars as still a status I am working towards. I am stuck in the demographic that's after cars from the 90's to early 2000's. I am just a few construction-work-related-foreign-trips away from acquiring a D3 A8.

Quick tip for the filling problem: Had the exact same problem on my e46 320cd, all you have to do is NOT fully insert the nozzle, because when you do, the back pressure from the air in the gas tank trying to escape tricks the pump nozzle to thinking it's full. you just insert it all the way and ever so slightly pull it back. Hope this helps.

I don't know much about BMWs but my Suzuki had the same problem, I put a air nozzle with a towel around it in my filler gap and put some air in it. Usually there's a small gap near the filler gap that allows airflow so that the air doesn't pressurize the gas pump, it could be clogged and it was clogged on my car. Sure some fuel shoots back up so be mindful but, it fixed the issue : ')

@@adamflower1715 Glad to have your quick response and thank you for the interesting information. In Japan quite a few people own cars powered by diesel engine because of the less expensive fuel and its big torque in low revolutions. How is the situation in your country which I believe is Germany? And how come you like the engine?
@adamflower1715 Жыл бұрын
@@noritsunemunemasa5348 I'm surprised to learn that diesels are popular in Japan. I live in Poland, but diesel engines are very common here for the same reason - being cheaper to run (not to maintain, though). The Passat B4 1.9 TDI is the flagship car Poland. Due to low salaries people like myself often buy older and used cars from western Europe. That being said, large cities - including the one I live in! - are trying to implement restrictions which will prevent cars like mine from entering. I decided on this car with this particular engine for a couple of reasons. One being that it produces a lot of power and torque for the money without many owners reporting issues. The second (and main) reason is that it's very uncommon and I'm drawn to peculiar and niche things. I love having an older 7-Series with a V8 diesel especially since it's very strange and rare. All that aside, I love the way this car behaves. It sounds great, has great torque and power, and overall it's just a great place to be in during a long drive.

@@noritsunemunemasa5348 While I am somewhat familiar with the Japanese culture (very respectful, kind, honest, knowledge-hungry, and understanding people), I do not know much about the Japanese car culture. I am just aware of the stereotypes from The Fast and Furious as well as the fact that people in Japan purchase left-hand-drive cars as a status symbol despite Japan being a right-hand-drive country. The only experience with JDM cars I have is browsing Japanese car auctions. Most of the cars that have caught my eye are white German gasoline V8's in mint condition. Also I know that the Japanese make really good cars. My dad used to own a 1999 V6 Camry and it severed him very well for over a decade!

All kinds of stuff was carried around in it. Plus the 3 yearly trips to the alps back and forth to go skiing. No damage to the leather. The quality of BMW’s interiors used to be so incredible. Now its all cheap plastic that creaks when you squeeze it. Seats made of thin perforated leather (hides the imperfections) and the doors feel like they’re made out of plastic. The filling up problem is caused by a clogged vent. As you're filling it the air has nowhere to go so it creates a positive pressure and triggers the nozzle stop. As a temporary fix while you haven't unclogged it, you can just leave the hose half-out so that air can get out through the sides. Btw, do replace your outside temperature sensor. It's a cheap part and it really affects your hvac. Not to mention, I'm not sure if this affects e38s, but e39s are very known to catch fire due to this: the car thinks it's -40C which triggers the heated windshield washer nozzles to be always on, even if its hot and the sun is hitting the hood. This melts the insulation and eventually causes a fire. All because of a cheap little sensor.
@darek4488 Жыл бұрын
Good sugestion. There are two common reasons E38 and E39 catch on fire. First is the headlight wiring falling apart and shorting out and the second is heated nozzles staying always on due to bad temp sensor.

How the old tires looked? When you showed under the car it looked like the front one have been eaten on the inside. If yes, more expenses with suspension are on the horizon. But it is well worth it. In my e61 3.0d I have recently replaced all wheel bearings and flex joints in the rear - suddenly car got much more quiet, comfortable and also fuel consumption went down. Coolant leak - check water pump, for oil leaks most probable that the head cover gaskets are leaking, and power steering you probably have it figured out already with expansion tank. If your e38 has not much rust - it is well worth keeping and putting money into it. There is not much of those cars on the market anymore, most of them are suffering from rust issues, I have tried to find one few years ago, it was not possible.

Insanely comfortable (like Rolls Royce level comfortability in this gen of A8s, you cant even feel any potholes or anything when you go over them, and the rides on the highways especially are like you're on a yacht on the sea, its absolutely mesmerizing and amazing!!). One of my friends even said he regrets selling his S8 D2 because it was the most comfortable car he's ever had. 2. They don't have rust issues or minimal ones, cause we've had ours since 2013 in our ownership and so far since production the only rust it had was near the windshield, like around the sides on the roof mostly. Other than that I have not seen any other rust developing anywhere due to the ASF (Audi Space Frame), it has a full Aluminum body minimizing any rust. 3. The 2.5 TDI which we have is nuke proof, incredibly reliable, ours has around 480 or 490000km on it I took a picture today too to keep track and the only issues I remember it having was a Torque Converter issue and overheating issue, otherwise very solid engine with other fixes being suspension components, filters etc etc the usual service, so if you're ever in the market for a reliable A8, get the 2.5 diesel with 150hp you won't regret it. However, it is a bit on the slow side! Great video though I enjoyed it, I even told my family about it and how you counted the A8s lol, never knew there were so many over there, older A8s are generally hard to come by.

@@adamflower1715 kind of amazed how you went straight to the 740d and didn't consider a 730d, how are the taxes in poland?
@adamflower1715 Жыл бұрын
@@fetconfet I did consider the 730d, but I figured the 740d would be more special, so I applied the "go big or go home" mentality. Maintenance-wise they're not that far apart. They're both relatively large diesel engines. And I haven't heard as many complaints about the M67 compared to the M57, but to be fair that's probably because they made very few M67's as opposed to M57's. Besides, it's pretty cool to have an engine that used to power trams in your car. At the moment the only tax you need to worry about when buying a used car in Poland is 2% of the car's value. However, they are considering implementing a yearly tax based on the engine's displacement. But that's not even the worst part, as my city is trying to be "environment friendly" which will prevent all diesel cars of such age from entering. If it passes I won't be able to enter the city in which I live.
@fetconfet Жыл бұрын
@@adamflower1715 here in romania the displacement tax fucks the car market, big engines in cool cars are relatively cheap because the state rips you off and everything under 2 liter be it diesel or gas sometimes have comically large prices
@adamflower1715 Жыл бұрын
@@fetconfet At the moment there are no taxes associated with the displacement, but I have a feeling it will change very soon as mentioned above. But it is a factor when insuring a car and mainly when importing a car. Insurance is no big deal as I pay maybe 180 EUR for the mandatory insurance. However when importing a car with an engine under 2.0L you pay a 3.1% import tax. Anything over is 18.6% of the car's value. But it's no secret that governments hate car enthusiasts and they would prefer that we all ride a bike or a bus instead of cool vehicles.

I really enjoyed your video about your road trip. The e38 was a great car although you have some problems with electronics it drove nicely. I think it is a shame these great diesel engines will disappear. Highly efficient and powerful. Your fuel consumption was amazing and confirms what I expected. I used to work in leather manufacturing for these cars and actually worked for a company that has factories in Poland. I am always interested in to see how the leather aged in these cars. Maybe you can show this in another video. 👍

****Fuel filling fix**** •When you have issues with filling the tank, turn the fuel nozzle 90 degrees to the side! This will allow you to fill normally. If by some chance this doesnt work (it will work) •Get a long screw driver and a hammer and bash the small circular flap off. It to fall into the tank. No big deal

I've had same issue with refueling on my 740d E38, it's about the compensation air hose that releases air from the fuel tank while fueling. I believe it can be fixed from the side of the trunk, depends on where this little hose is damaged.
@ituC1008 Жыл бұрын
For me it's common on older cars, at some point, it's like air pressure from the tank is kicking back the fuel. So patience is the key when filling up.
