Yes...it was nice to hear the excitement of the Norwegian commentators for Dan Jansen! Of course they weren't cheering so endearingly because he's American but rather cheering on a fellow humanbeing, knowing & feeling the struggle he went through to the end as an Olympian. It's kind of a reminder that we are all the same....just humanbeings who have struggles and heartache in life at times regardless of what country we come from.

I never routed for an individual sports athlete more than Mr. Jansen. To win in what was not his best event was remarkable. To finally get the gold was truly just.

Thanks for posting this! Great response from the announcers when he crossed the line. I was at work when the announcement came over the radio that he had won the gold. I yelled it out to our office and there was a big cheer. I could hear the lady in the office next to me crying afterwards. If an entire country could will a person to victory, we were trying our hardest that day.

Easily one of the greatest, emotional moments in Olympic history by far !!!! I cried after watching this race live at the time. Everyone in our living room was on pins & needles when we watched it live & when he finished in first place . . WE ERUPTED !!!!!!

When this happened in my native Norway I was only 6 years old, and didn`t cheer that much since he wasn`t Norwegian. I still remember it well because my dad almost cried since, like the previous poster said, it was such a well deserved victory for a fellow human being:) Watching Calgary-reruns on NRK and now seeing this clip, I understand how everyone felt, and almost cry myself :)

I got to meet Dan at a Duke's children's hospital golf tournament in 1996. He was so nice.I think I told him that I had met Eric Heiden at a bike race near San Diego in June of 1980.I was so nervous and he was so nice.I was living out west then.

His wife's family was involved in bringing a team to Carolina so they had gear as soon as the new team was approved even though they hadn't actually started playing yet.
