This is probably your best bet. You could probably sell them for a little bit more if assembled into a cube. I use just a few proxies in my cube but inked cards would do the same job but better imo

Sorry my phone is screwing up but those are great for alters and I personally hate altering reserve list cards because they are already art however it’s been started so you could make lemonade my friend. Make the coolest cube in the world.

@@pabis6817 Oh yeah, you have a point there. They're still valuable and I've seen heavily damaged cards listed for exorbitant prices on MCM, to my astonishment. I expected that inked or heavy played would be somewhere around 10-20% of mint, but it turned out that they are very pricy. These are not worn, either so I would expect a lot of interest from people who do alters. Matt, you might want to ask around on Reddit, you'd be surprised how many people there do that. Some even make commissions.

can't blame the seller. he made a very clear note - also made one picture ("last picture") where you could spot the inked edges. he gave you all the information, you just have to read ..... you can't blame him, if you didnt...

You can always force a return and full refund on eBay. I can't believe you wouldn't just send them back. I sell full time on eBay and even if you don't accept returns you have to if the buyer doesn't like it.

Back in the nineties I had a ton of friends who hated the white border and so it was common to trade for white border cards then color the frame black. Maybe that’s what happened here.

What the hell... those are DAMAGED!!! As a seller, I would be embarrassed to sell that without a very clear disclosure. “Damaged, ALL cards have Sharpie on edges and boarders.” That in NO way are altered... and it won’t be salvageable!!! Sorry, Bro

The inking could've been done years upon years ago. When revised was released, I was in my early teens and I turned them into "Beta" cards by inking the white borders with a sharpie. Kids will be kids.

this almost seems like a person outside of the MTG community found a collection and inked them thinking it would help with value, little did they know...really odd to see such a cohesive bunch of reserved list (inked) together.

I think that the inking owner must just like the look. It may have started out as inking to cover imperfections and then they noticed the inconsistency between cards. Beyond that, I have to believe that they think the all black appearance looks better instead of having that thin line of white from the paper between the border and the table or sleeve. It had to have been someone that played with the cards, because no collector would devalue their otherwise nice collection to such an extreme.

I'm further into the video now and I'm just shocked as to someone's "logic" as they're mass inking the edges of those cards... when will people realize that leaving "collectibles" in their current state is ALWAYS better than trying to restore/self restoration... did they not watch Wandavision with that thought experiment????

I pretty much only buy the cheapest version of a card (heavily played) so this doesn’t actually bother me too much, but then again I don’t own any reserved list cards

Seems he was indeed fishing with that listing. It sucks, but if it is in his listing, he wasn’t exactly hiding it. Reminds me of when I worked at a retail toy store and they put damaged goods out on the floor hoping someone not paying attention would just buy it. I never liked the practice and even though I had to restock, I put the damaged stuff in the back of the good stuff.

My guess is that someone played unsleeved in the old days, then sharpied some of their cards that were worn from playing. They most likely realized that the sharpie stands out on the borders and the cards are marked so they sharpied all of the edges of the cards they were playing with so that they wouldn't be marked. Either that or the person who did that was insane.

😢- the seller knew that they couldn’t sell if they put info in the main title so hid it in the fine print. It sucks and it angers me that someone isn’t up front. I can’t understand why people can’t just be upfront and honest 🤷‍♂️. I am sorry this happened to you.

I've watched several of your purchase videos now and one thing jumps out to me every time and I just wanted to bring it to your attention to potentially help with future videos. You thumb through stacks of cards like you're hopped up on amphetamines. It's a little dizzying to some folks who are trying to follow along :) I realize that it's probably how you go through cards when no one is watching because it's efficient and fast -- if it's not something you want to change I definitely suggest emulating Tragic's fast forward and pause on things that are interesting. =)

The seller stated that they were inked. In terms of selling them as singles for play use (as opposed to investments), would you be able to recoup your money or even make a profit? But the problem with selling singles and making a profit, the time and effort involved in selling these probably wouldn’t be worth it. I hope you can find a lot of playable, desirable cards in this lot, Matt. 🤞🏻

Yea it was your fault for not reading, but the seller was clearly trying to hide the fact they were all inked. All the cards are inked that needs to be in the title, or at the least damaged cards read description. He clearly knew what he had and was hoping everyone bid without reading the description. The inking itself to me looks like a child just decided to take a sharpie to the cards .

Ouch! It's always prudent to read every word of the ebay post. Even then people will try some shenanigans to sneak something like that by you. I even had an experience as one seller splayed out so many cards, and you could see some heavy hitter like City of Traitors and Gaea's Cradle in the picture, but when I got the cards all of the expensive ones were gold bordered World Champion cards. Sure, they're still worth something, but I was expecting $5K worth of cards and got slapped with a massive loss.

Painful to watch. If I were you I'd put some of them back up on Ebay at .99 each (auction), clearly stating in the title that they're inked and see how it goes.
