So far not bad. Only thing you gotta remember about gabions is you need to tie wire every 4-6 inches after filling with rock to reinforce it to prevent the bulging.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by tie wire because I'm trying to build one of these in Jamaica next to a river
@mathusvaiaoga97872 жыл бұрын
@@kovarcoley8418 After you get the boxes built to whatever height you cannot just fill all the stone at once and then close the cage. You should fill it only 4 to 6 inches high and then secure another layer of wire(s) Along the width of the gabion box. If you just fill it all the way to the top with stones it will cause major bulging because it’s not reinforced properly

@@mathusvaiaoga9787 thank you so much for replying, I say one video of a guys gabion next to a river that was bulging and falling apart so I'm glad you made this comment so I can avoid that mistake. I have another question though do you know how thick the size of the gabion wires need to be to put them next to a high volume river and do gabion baskets have to be the same size from bottom layer to the top layer. I saw another comment that said the ones at the bottom need to be in bigger baskets they put smaller ones at the top.
@mathusvaiaoga97872 жыл бұрын
@@kovarcoley8418 correct. Ideally you want the basket to be half as thick as its height. So if it’s going to be 6 feet high you’re gonna want it to be 3 feet wide minimum. You could also do them in layers and use gabion mattress toward the bottom. The end result ultimately depend on how much time, resources, equipment and manpower you have. Gabions are awesome… simple cheap and very effective. If you’re building gabions along a river After you’re done building the gabion wall you can backfill will dirt and plant trees with prolific root systems right along the bank of the gabion. Bamboo works wonders. Plants some clumping Bamboo right up next to that gabion wall and that wall ain’t going NOWHERE!

Side dump bucket would have been helpful. If you batten in the sides at 1" inward per foot, it would almost be self supporting.

Really to use the flat cage panels with baffles every 4 ft , if not just use rebar every 3ft with tie wire across to keep it from spreading out .

you need to cross tie wire or your wire fence sides will bulge out!

One question; why didn't you have the wall buried a bit? I think in a long run it would help prevent any tilting...

How long with the fencing and wire last?
@YoungAmbitionYA2 жыл бұрын
Not sure. Time will tell. Everything is still good almost a year later, but need more time to see. Wire fences that were put up can be found in good shape after decades of weathering. I'm assuming this wire will be fine for some time

Hi 👋 Thank you for the video. What’s the gauge for the tie wires and the size for the cage sheets? Please.
@YoungAmbitionYA2 жыл бұрын
It's 14 guage steel fencing from tractor supply. Tie wires are about the same
@jimd421 Жыл бұрын
Problem is the wires are gonna rust out and the wall is going to fall apart period
@YoungAmbitionYA Жыл бұрын
Potentially. But all walls, brick and morter, block, stone etc all need maintenance over time. Nothing lasts forever. So not sure why you would expect this to last either. This is very cheap and easy not only to build but to maintain. A simple rewrap of new metal fencing will take care of any worn out fencing from the original build. All the rocks are movable by hand so you could even remove some to replace cross ties. Before wrapping new Fencing it also be easy to install new end and side supports. The wall is now hidden by a 50ft shop, and it's only purpose is to protect the building, not for show. For the little money it cost to build and the little money it will cost to maintain over time, worth every penny. Period.
