Thanks so much for this video, I've played this a couple times as the bass player, while playing the root was musically correct, you've given me a great perspective on something just a little bit more.

Hello Mike. I am grateful for your recordings. I haven't played bass for 10 years and i'm now thrown into complementing the band of our church. I played a lot in the 80s. Now I'm going to play modern music. It's good to watch. I can't do so much with Basstabs. I like to learn from you. God bless you. I will also watch all the other Videos from you. Let the fingers glow for the Lord. :-)

And play worshipfully :). Felt that was missing from the end remarks ;). Mike, you are an excellent teacher and spiritual leader. Even though this is an older video, I still want to thank you for the work you put into them and continue to put in. On top of playing the music, you remind us why we're playing, to lead people to worship and to worship and praise our Lord. Be blessed Mike.

This is a beautiful and perfect expression of this song! My worship team is always wanting me to play low notes throughout the whole song. I am glad to find another who chooses to be more mindful of the song and use their instrument to portray a story of expression within the song by playing intentionally even when not playing a single note. Thank you for blessing us with these words at the end. It lets me know that what the Spirit is telling me to do will give God the glory he deserves. God bless you for your videos. I wish I had seen them a couple of years ago when they needed a bass player at the church (I am a percussionist). Still, they are very insightful and I wish and hope you come out from retirement. Playing fills is probably the more complex task of playing bass. Your other video that leads into this one, gives the precise information needed to foster growth. God bless you Mike!

Nice! Was looking for something different to play in the song for this Sunday. The other thing to think about is what other instruments are playing. On Sunday the line-up means if I play the octave higher I'll be getting mixed up with others (in the sound spectrum) - so I'll keep low but use some of the ideas. Thanks

I'm not too big on the religious theme of the song but I love your style. You have the melodic technique and tone of John Deacon from Queen. Great over all sound!
@mikebrandenstein542510 жыл бұрын
Hey Thanks Xcorgi! Your comment really means a lot to me because John Deacon and Queen have been a huge inspiration to me! In fact, I believe it was JDs bass lines that drove me to start playing bass back in 1978!
@Xcorgi10 жыл бұрын
Mike Brandenstein Not a lot of people have his basic technique but when I hear it I definitely know it and you have it. It's really funny. No other bass player's sound or technique really spoke to me or inspired me enough to switch from 25 years of playing drums and 15 of playing guitar to switching to playing bass. Bass must be a British thing for me, my other influences are Andy Roark from The Smiths, the bass player from The Cure and Sting from The Police. English players tend to build their songs around strong bass MELODIES where Americans tend to write a song from all the other instruments then throw the bass line in as an after thought. Deacy of course is the MASTER of this and will always be my main influence.

@jeremyhodges94802 жыл бұрын
Awesome, can you help me out on 5string bass guitars for praise and worship? I came from electric and acoustic guitar and learning. Ran into a tuning change on one of our songs dropped d to standard e and didn't tune in time so I play in dropped d on electric guitar. I filled in for a bass player with a 5 string bass and tuned normal on the low string. I am trying tO figure out do praise and worship use that low string for lower bass tones? I'm learning bass guitar for my church and searched KZbin and found nothing. I play my 4 string bass to dropped d so I have that low d you don't get in standard tuning in e.

Many thanks for showing us some ideas that aren't so insufferably boring as the originals...I want to be a good bass player and add to the music - not an every bass player that's just a tacked on afterthought w/ no sense of inspiration or creativity whatsoever! But it is important to know when NOT to play or when to play very little, so I appreciate those reminders as well :D
