I've heard of a different ending. She masterfully deliberately told stories about strong male protagonists many of which had a journey where they had to call on their humility, strength and kindness in order to save the day so to speak but essentially to live happily ever after as a wise and benevolent person. Over and over she made these characters relatable to the king and without his knowing he was imagining himself to be these heroes and over the course of 1001 nights, through the magic of story telling, he was changed from deep within. To quote Francis Glebas who wrote 'Directing the Story', "... and the sultan got lost in them, and in them he found himself." I think the moral being that we can instigate great change with our innate creative gifts... or something of the like.
@monagi8193 жыл бұрын
The really cool part about 1001 nights is that its all one inter connected story. She doesn't finish a story and start a new one rather a character in one story tells a story to jinn to save his own life about a man telling a story to a sultan about some sailor who heard a story from someone...etc. I had to backtrack sooooo many times while reading the books to make sure i followed the entire plot and I'm still not sure I really did. The book also is filled with political commentary of the time period, amazing peices of poetry and such bizzare stories and social customs that it just hooks you. Easily one of the best Novels ever written in human history, shame it wasn't properly translated to other languages while keeping all the nuances of the story relevant.

It’s not Arabian nights, the original name is 1001 and one nights. “Arabian” nights was a title made by followed because they do not know the difference amongst middle eastern people. The vast majority of names and dories in these books are in fact Persian. Sure there is also other regional stories but the base of the whole entire narrative is based on accent Persia.

@rya_.3 жыл бұрын
@Solmaz Dar All the stories were Arab and were about Arab people. People only used China and India in stories for exotic purposes, because back then, China and India were unknown lands. Using China is India in a story was basically the equivalent of saying "in a land, far far away". That's why there are NO Indian or Chinese references or stories about their culture in any of the tales. All the characters were undeniably middle eastern, had Arabic names and only spoke Arabic.

@@shameaalsarag2803 I'm sorry but this comment really triggered me. The story of "a thousand and one nights" is so complex and convoluted its written in the original arabic books in a series of about 7 books each around 500 pages long full of dense arabic text. To put it bluntly game of thrones looks like a kindergarten story in comparison. The "shows" don't come close to doing it justice. Current day Iraq was part of the ancient Persian empire. A lot of the story takes place in Iraq and Baghdad sure but it also takes you all over the Persian empire so its more accurate to say it happened in ancient Persia. Its not really lying or trying to remove credit, I mean Baghdad is mentioned by name in the books so I don't think offence was meant.
