I have recently found your channel and as such have not gone deep in your catalogue. Thanks for this video, I have a ton of respect for your no nonsense looks into what you really “need” as a photographer. Thank you for this great review. I"m a huge fan of Zeiss Milvus lenses for many reasons but mostly because they've taken me back to my roots when every lens I owned was a manual focus. In my opinion these lenses do make you a better photographer because you must slow down, use a tripod and become more deliberate in your compositions. They may be a 'niche' product but what they produce - wow!

Regarding subjects that move. I loaned my D750 and this lens to my son who wanted to take some photos at an airshow. Calculating that the aircraft were manuvering a fair distance from the crowd, I set the lens to infinity, aperture priority f5.6 and ISO400 just told him to shoot away and not worry about focus. With the hard infinity stop in play, he got dozens of really great keepers with typical shutterspeeds of between 1/1600 to 1/4000. For my own uses, I use it in mush the same way as you do.

Funny thing about my Zeiss classic lenses I just got is now my file sizes are 3-4MB larger with them. It’s clearly letting in more detail and color. I’ve had a few images that I only adjusted a few camera raw settings without touching the saturation and it was basically ready to go. It’s impossible to see why Zeiss is worth it unless you buy it and see for yourself. Looking at images online just made me think there was the Zeiss fairy dust that people were claiming. Once I edited my photos I realized what was so great about it. Sigma and the like are great and sharp but it’s missing something. I think companies are just chasing sharpness and losing character. Zeiss is keeping that amazing look and being super sharp all the way through the iris. Yeah sigma and canon is sharp but so isn’t my Nikon kit lens but it’s build quality and bokeh suck. Zeiss, Voigtlander and Leica are the only lenses with good build quality. It seems everyone is just copying those three lens companies optical sharpness but skimping on the rest. Everyone looks over build quality and the detail it lets in all the while praising nothing but sharpness.

Really good Macro Lens have manual focus only and the long focus throw is a big advantage for manual photography, specially for macro ! I hate all the talk about autofocus, I do manual focusing 99.99% of the time !

100mm sprint! I love it. 'Snail Olympics? Great lens though and I will probably get one having owned the [previous cersion where it was already my favoite lens. Closeups, still, and landscapes, especially useful at night with the infinity stop.

For macro, autofocus is useless. Having Carl Zeiss lenses for the Hasselblad, I can say that they have that type of look.
