Hey a quick question, while reading up online most people say that macro lenses can also be used for portrait and more distant photography. Would this be the case here? Could it be used for portrait? Or it simply wouldn’t catch focus beyond the couple of cm from the lens?

So, a lens that is 8cm from the middle of the front element (bit of glass) and the sensor/film is '80mm, on a 35 mm Sensor/film'... if the sensor is 1/2 the size, then the same lens is '160mm equivalent'... as the phone sensor is so small, it doesn't stick out 10cm from the phone, but a division of that, based on the sensor size... so say if the lens sticks out 5mm, then the sensor size for '100mm equivalent' would be 1/20th of the size of a 35 mm sensor'

Would this work if I wanted to take a macro photo of lips? I am a cosmetic tattoo aesthetician and I need a macro lens for my iPhone 13 pro that I can hold 4-5 cm away from my client’s face and it can still photograph the lips as a whole not just part of it.

​ @Liquid Pixels literally a lens is 10cm if it is 100mm... by definition. you are mixing up, and I see that Apple is falsely adverting too it's 5.1mm lens as '26 mm'... whilst excluding the modifier 'equivalent'. The smaller the sensor, the higher the 'equivalent' to a larger focal distance on a 'full frame' (35mm) sensor.

False labeling. If it was 100mm it'd be 10 mm long.

100 mm = 10 cm ||| That does not mean the whole thing has to be 10 cm long. For example, the iPhone 14's main camera is 26 mm but it's not a 2,6 cm long camera; it would be impossible since the phone's thickness is 7,8 mm.
