Edit : that lign at 4:30 seems to illustrate exactly when you can pedal through the corner and don't : the guy swings right in a brutal way, gets out of the corner in the middle of the road hence probably rode an extra 3 meters in this corner while not even pedaling. Making the road longer and not pedaling on it, that's a weird way to turn in my opinion. I was watching your video on Boise crit litteraly just before getting back to KZbin front page and seeing this new one :O Thanks for the awesome content you've been putting up for years, I don't race crits but I can still enjoy them thanks to you !

He stays out of the wind, and goes wide to get the corner in, he can pick his nice and even line for the next corner. That guy is faster than anyone else, the only thing he worries about is not wasting energy. There is a little downhill right at the first corner that he gets.

Being a bigger, stronger guy (86kg), I've found that the outside line was usually faster and more efficient for me during crits, especially early on. So much accordion effect in the first half of the race. During the last few Ks of a race, if the bunch was still together, it wasn't unusual to go from 30th to 3rd inside of a couple of laps using the outside line. Also, depending on the course, I ran slightly lower tie pressure than most (better rear tire hook up through corners at speed). Quite a few of the lighter guys would often wash out trying to follow my line through hard corners, especially during the last couple of laps.
@ChrisRiekert994 жыл бұрын
When the pace is really high it sometimes doesn't work as well. Another thing working in our favor here is a lack of control at the front of the race. Later, when the sprint teams take over to set up their sprinters, they will close that line down.
@chriswitek94554 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisRiekert99 especially if it's a tight course. Put legion or any other well drilled train on the front and they're closing off every line through the corner. Weve all seem their inside to outside swing leading into a corner and it wrecks people's attempt at moving up.

I agree but racing is so much fun. I’ve raced amateur off and on since I was a kid and the excitement of ripping through a Crit course with nothing but other bikes and no cars is unbeatable. 35 years and haven’t won a single race and I still love it.

Yeah, that's frustrating. I remembering intentionally setting up on the front line at the National Championships years ago in the cat 4/5 race, knowing gaps would form quickly. And just before the race started, the pace car came around and needed to get through, and the moved half the group (including me) to the back of the other half to allow the car through. Sure enough I get stuck in the back of the race, and the riders in front of me get gapped right away in the first lap. I ended up in a group of 4 of us, never being able to bridge back to the front. Super frustrating.

YEA! Thanks! Honestly... it wasn't too bad. I was pretty steady and was just pedaling smoothly until I covered the move over the top. I'll be the first to admit, I am not as comfortable in the group and your Danny Holloways and Justin Williams... so even if i need to burn a match or two to get in to a better position, it works better in the long run for me. 🤘🏻

So I’ve been cycling for about a year and I train a lot. But I’m still averaging about 15-17mph. So what’s a good thing to practice for speed. Because I really want to race crits but I’m nowhere near the pace
@ChrisRiekert994 жыл бұрын
Two things. first, just go race! you'll get the speed you need while racing. If you can't hang, no sweat! You'll get them next time! Second, in training, start working yourself up with blocks of speed. Start doing 3 or 4min fast. If you can do that, try to do 5 or 6min. Then 10min. And, so on. you'll get used to the speed and be read to race when its the right time!
@mattbettwy40694 жыл бұрын
You shouldn’t expect to hold crit speed on your own. Even the worlds best can’t hold 30+ mph for 90 minutes on a road bike, but in a pack that’s pretty standard for these D1 crits. Keep training hard, and be sure to get into group rides and get comfortable riding right with others. Pack racing skills are just as important (or maybe even more important) than outright fitness for your first few seasons, especially in crits

Not disagreeing a bit with comments or commentary, you gotta stay on the gas and inside your redline and take the opportunities; but as a wildlife enumerator (I count animals in herds and flocks)it just made my head hurt. When he says 30, it was 12, +/- 3 says 50-60 more like 20. The big move to the front comes on the 4th lap when the pack slows. If the numbers bothered any other viewer, I've got a career suggestion for you.
