A little while ago, we released a video titled 101 Worst Video Games of All Time, and you guys turned out in your literal millions to point and laugh at the most egregious games that the world has ever seen. However, whilst awful titles are a lot of fun, every so often it is nice to kick back with a game that’s actually half decent. I know, it’s shocking that we don’t spend all of our time playing utterly plops video games, but it’s true, and actually, most of the time, we prefer titles that are, you know, good. But which games are the crème de la crème? The top of the heap? The best of the best? To work that out, we’re going to need a big list. Here are the 101 Best Video Games of All Time.

I don't agree with everything Ashton says, but I'll give you props for the Madden NFL 2002 comment of "One critic even said even players who weren't massive American football fans would have a great time.." (with the game) and Ashton basically saying "yeah we're not sure about that.." is absolutely spot on. Over my lengthy video game playing life I have found every single American football game to be 100% unplayable. Without exception.

I think it comes down to interest. I'm american but I don't care for football (of any variety) so I don't get into these games, but my cousin loves American football and I've tried to play madden with him on a dozen occasions. Same with fifa. Can't get into it because I don't care about fútbol.

These list videos blow anyway, they don't do enough research and they insult all the good games, and they're boring. WGE and Weirdest Games Ever are much better. If I wanted to hear about lists, I'd go grocery shopping. The next video will be 102 best games ever, and the list will be exactly the same, with one more game at the end. It's funny that even a list that's stated at the start to be ranked solely based on average review score still has people arguing in the comments about the rankings being 'wrong'. Like yeah, opinions of a game are subjective, but in the context of this list the metric being used is irrefutable since it's being sorted by numbers.

Well, it's just two websites that collect some reviews. It's definitely not all reviews that were made in the world. You also have to acknowedge that a lot of games from the 80s and 90s are not as much represented on metacritic. Back then videogamecritis mostly started just from scratch and were quite unprofessional as well. And then you also have the situations were gamescame out broke, got patched and people loved them. But they had bad reviews because of early reviews. So in my opinion it's not just numbers. ;-)

No different from if they'd sorted the games alphabetically instead. Would that still get people arguing about the list being 'wrong'?

They are describing their methods very clearly and so you can't argue that the list is wrong. :-) I just ment it in the view that this is the ultimate list what defines the best game and that you can't argue about that. But yeah, I guess a list like this will anyway never exist. =)

So the title should be changed in that case. Plus critic were very pro-playstation in the Saturn era, an era upon which if a game did not includes polygon, you would have gotten a 6 out of 10 from the start on any review. But today today, we don't care if it's 2d as long as it's good and the games have qualities. Critic are often a product of their time and are too often based on comparaison instead of for what the game really is about, which can make them totally biased. All I say is critic were biased back then and titling "101 best video game of all time" and then base it on biased and outdated critic score AFTERWARD is misleading, therefore there is place for argumentation what ever you like that or not.

I will say, players were NOT happy at first for Wind Wakers graphics. It was a big deal as before Wind Waker was announced, a graphics demo at E3 showed a much different, super dark and gritty Zelda game was shown. This would go on to be the template for Twilight Princess, but that would be years after Wind Waker. Obviously Waker would be loved still once people got their hands on it, but leading up to release MOST people were hesitent.

It's not exactly earth shattering having OoT as 1 but you really had to be there to experience it. For me personally it's SF2 but OoT, alongside FF7, at the time were absolutely mind blowing. Like you could not fathom this depth of a game at the time, it was fucking amazing. By now I'm sure it's quaint and novel but my God going from 16-bit to that? Good lord.

Oot is in my opinion the GREATEST game if all time and I'm not some nostalgic fanboy I am 15 years old and it still holds up. I have beaten many current games and oot still has the best pacing and the difficulty goes up at a normal pace

Well sorry i know this a list based on metarcritic / game rankings but … its a bad list to be honest . This was based on what the reviews at that time period gave these games … 6 kojima games ? ( average at best ) , nfl games ( not the whole world plays those games ) , the list is made of at least 20 super mario and zelda games ( good games but mostly for kids ! ) . What about sonic games which are far superior that super mario games ??? Soul Calibur the best fighting game of all time ( who actually believes that ? ) . A bunch of games that nobody heard of ? Except a handful of games this list is bogus ! Where are the modern games ? The modern first person / third person excellent adventure / shooter games ? Where are the gems this last decade gave us ? Forza horizon games ? I know what anybody would say , that this list is based on the average rankings of all the sites … yes … but on the scale that games were based on at that time period … we should update these lists on todays standards and not on the standards of games back then . I am definetely a retro gamer but i am not stuck in the past , games evolve , standards evolve and rankings evolve . A bogus list with only about 25 games worth to be there ….. the others need to be replaced …. Back then people were too generous with their rankings cause at the time games were good in their eyes at that time period … list needs to be updated according to todays standards or even better make 2 lists , retro games 100 best of and modern games 100 best of . That would be the fair way to sort this nonsense out .

Well at the very least, MGS2 got some credit for being the best Metal Gear title, instead of Snake Eater being just so overrated. Also, “git gud” came from MGS4’s online mode, Metal Gear Online.

Another ALL TIME list that ignores the Spectrum/Commodore era where GAMEPLAY was EVERYTHING rather than the `reflections in puddles` current gen! Not entirely accurate titled ALL TIME as Spectrum/Commodore era pre-dates scoring. A nod to this era mentioning a few top games would help.

I picked up godfall mostly because at the launch of the PS5 there were not many games to choose from. The game looked great. Combat was fine. But my lord if there was a story i can't remember it lol. If they could have popped spme jrpg elements in that game we could have had it all 😂
