My whole family is from New Zealand and my parents moved from New Zealand to Melbourne when they were about to have me. And when that earthquake happened my grandma (who lived in Christchurch before moving to Melbourne with us) was in it. She was at her work which was quite a tall building (not exactly sure how many stories high) and was about to go out to lunch when she decided to stay in to do some extra work. This is when the earthquake happened. Nobody else was really on her floor because most of the others went out to lunch. She went under her desk praying for her life. The stairs started to collapse when a helicopter came to rescue her. She moved to Melbourne in 2016 to live close to us and to escape the constant earthquakes. She lives to this day. (P.S sorry if things don’t make sense or there is some mistakes, I’m only 12 lol)

Edmund Hillary, a Kiwi, was the first man to climb Mt Everest. Lord of the rings and the Hobbit were mostly filmed in New Zealand. No there is no Old Zealand. We love pavlova. Never pronounce Maori words wrong or we get angry. We are a very green country. Beautiful beaches. We have human rights to a river and a mountain. We are nice. Sometimes.

I would like to point out that the Royal New Zealand Air Force have the Kiwi bird on their roundel as a symbol of courage. According to Maori legend the God of the Forest (whose name I won't even try to spell) asked the birds which ones would give up the gift of flight to walk and the ground and eat insects to protect the trees. All the birds said no, except Kiwi. He was brave enough to sacrifice his gift of flight to protect the forest for all creatures. So the Kiwi on the emblem is actually repetitive of the course our service men and women show and by putting that symbol on our aircraft we return the kiwi his gift of flight.
