What's so insane about Puerto Rico, is its unknown music culture. I'm a backpacker that has traveled 40+ countries in the past couple of years. Everywhere I go you can listen to Puerto Rican music, and yet in places like Eastern Europe and Asia they have no idea that Puerto Rico even exists. It's the opposite for example to Cuba.
@dannyandino60022 жыл бұрын
As a Cuban here us Cubans feel that Puerto Rican’s and Cubans feel like we are practically the same exact thing culturally geographically and historically even our flags are the same exact thing 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Lol the only difference is that Cuba is an communist independent country while you guys are still under American rule

@Emy532 жыл бұрын
I was born in Brooklyn. I visited the island twice in my life; 1976 & 2017, first was honeymoon, 2nd visit for family reunion. I visited Tenerife, Canary Islands and then the mainland Spain, Andalusia area in 2019, for another family reunion. My lineage combines both cultures and I embrace them. Hands down, the Puerto Rican food, for me, is better than the cuisine in Spain. I love my lineage and embrace both.

Never heard of #70. We naturally kiss our families when they enter the room or leave. We don't randomly just lean in a kiss a stranger...but I have seen females do it more than males. I have kissed a family friend but not random people in the street.

When I grew up in the 60’s my family called the national bird was the Puerto Rican parrot 🦜 funny how it changed somehow. The indigenous used the parrot as its symbol because indigenous peoples had many known languages throughout the world able to freely flow speech by anyone. People spoke so fast you had to listen very well. Anyone indigenous could speak own languages and Espanol, French and English, plus Portuguese and maybe even other languages such as Criole and of the natives of Canary Islands was very common.

Just something I wanted to address about number 70 the kiss on the cheek tradition, we don’t really kiss on the cheek in the middle of a conversation we do it as a greeting and as a goodbye, for example when we go to a families house for Christmas for example we go to all of our family members and kiss there cheek with a hug usually and we do the same when we’re going to say goodbye

101Facts, free pronunciation coaching here = Dominican (Republic) is doe-MIN-ee-cun, rather than doe-min-EE-cun, the Taino Indians are tah-EE-no, since there's an accent on the 'i'; Fortaleza is four-tah-LAY-zah, rather than four-tah-ZAY-lah, but you're right in that it means 'fortress'. Also, Ponce is POHN-say, rather than 'pants' with a British accent. Another, more sensible, way of saying Puerto Rico is 3 times smaller is that it's 1/3 the size. All of this information is absolutely free! : ))

Nonstop flight = self explanatory. Direct flight = Point A to Point B with stops in between (but you don't have to leave the aircraft). It's like a ride on the tube or bus. Change of gauge = you switch aircraft but the flight number remains the same. Common when you're on a flight with a short then much longer leg (JFK to Hong Kong, for example. Change equipment/aircraft in San Francisco).

2:13 getting facts from the census, which doesn't account for the fact that very few people who self-identify as "white" here would be considered as such by mainland US citizens at a glance. Wow, as a Puerto Rican (who actually *lives* in Puerto Rico) I did not expect to be pissed off by this video so much in the first five minutes. Also, that bit about most people speaking English is BS. Most people here speak English to the same degree that someone who took Spanish in high school in the states has a grasp of that language. Jeez video, if you're just going to spoon feed us unverified Wikipedia facts, why should we bother clicking at all. /rant
