If you look up close a lot of these cars are beyond economic repair. Usually through rot in the body or chassis. They may have already donated their original engines & driveline to another restorer. The Mk1 Ford Edsel Country Station Wagon and Maai's DeSoto are unusual to see in Europe. You wonder if they are bought as a rolling chassis from a US junkyard on condition they will never see the road again.

@NJPurling I've seen where these cars were donors for cars in much better shape and this is how they dispose of the remains. If that's the case, I'm totally cool with that.

It varies, some are rotten, some are too expensive to restore and some racers just love destroying decent cars.

Serious injuries are very rare, sports like boxing or horse racing are more dangerous as the cars are built to a safe standard. Last person to die in a crash was in 2005
