How twisted is the dishes brain to think that he can gain the love and respect of his family by coercing them into it. It's just so twisted. He just hasn't been able to get it through his head that there is very little he can do to make up for his past abuse of everyone in his orbit

Blackmail and emotional coercion is just a wonderful way to win your family back. Love and respect don't even enter into it.
