Love that you mentioned Mike Bennetts “trailer park” too funny, he’s a riot. Great video as always Nate, that montage of sugarhouse will be awesome!

I love my flat semi sloped woods. Can visit all 500 taps in a day. Great for guzzler setups. 26-27 inches of vac without ladders, releases or high dollar vacuum. Do the stubby\pin setups make perfect seal like tap\cup does?
@BissellMapleFarm2 жыл бұрын
Yes they are both tapered. The poly carb definitely grabs more than the poly ethylene.
@TheSmagzilla2 жыл бұрын
@@BissellMapleFarm sorry but which is which?
@BissellMapleFarm2 жыл бұрын
@@TheSmagzilla clear is poly carbonate. Black is polyethylene. The poly really seats in the tree, too. You can see the sap flowing - which is cool.
@TheSmagzilla2 жыл бұрын
@@BissellMapleFarm oh yes I agree. I was more asking if the stubby and tee with pin make a perfect seal if you were to pull a tap. Producers with expensive vac aren't woried about microleaks like I am so maybe you don't pull many taps from that. If I have a microleak on a tap I pull them...maybe 10 a year but they add up to higher productivity for the woods when using a diaphragm pump.

@@TheSmagzilla I understand your question now. Yes. They seal up tight. We like tapping with vacuum on. It seals better than the cup in my experience.

What about check valve adapter/spile part. The one with the little ball to block the tap from sucking back into tree ?? Curious 🧐

@@BissellMapleFarm do they work better at helping tree heal faster ? Is the added cost worth it ? Gravity feeding into buckets atm but next year I plan to run vacuum lines

Hey Nate & Austen .... We started using the stubbies and adaptors about 5 years ago ..... seems to keep the amount of sap the same each year in our small operation of 300 taps .... like your videos, they are educational and laid back ..... and you don't boast about what you do ... THANKS!!!

Nate are the adapters basically disposable or are they able to be washed? IE: dishwasher? Or do they become brittle like the disposable spouts? I’m thinking of switching next season.
@BissellMapleFarm2 жыл бұрын
The adapters are disposable. Anything can be washed! It just takes time and money! There are all sorts of gimmicks out there. And the reality is, it is a dollar waiting on a dime. Sugarmakers I know that make a half gallon of maple syrup per tap.... they do not wash spouts.
@davidjones11522 жыл бұрын
I had heard once that you cannot kill the bacteria that grows in the taps .. the plastic is porous and the bacteria gets into every knock and cranny .. even an autoclave cannot kill it ....
@BissellMapleFarm2 жыл бұрын
@@davidjones1152 maybe some uranium or plutonium would take care of that bacteria! And the spouts would glow for a little extra light in the Sugarbush! 😁
