He honestly just strikes me as a made-man type of guy who earned millions as a coach, has a super bowl under his belt and just goes through the motions to keep making more money. He's got a SB with GB, head coach for Dallas with multiple 12-5 seasons... SB with one storied franchise, winning seasons as HC of another... His clock management at times has been so sub-par, along with recent play calling. I just don't think he cares too much since he's already made it. Like a player who's had a couple big contracts but is old and knows they will retire soon so they stop playing hard.

What SHOULD happen is that McCarthy is allowed to walk and Jerry hires Ben Johnson. Cause if he can turn Goff into the dude who was drafted #1 overall when Goff had only shown glimpses of being THAT dude....then he is your BEST BET to get the most out of Dak. And honestly, that's like the ONLY option Dallas has for any legitimate hope of competing past the divisional round. Dak has this team hostage with his contract so you HAVE to get a guy who has gotten more out of a lesser QB (or at one time surely was seen as less than Dak). But Jerry has stated that he's not paying NFL HC money for someone to "learn on the job". So Jerry is gonna give McCarthy a 3 year deal.

I rate McCarthy as an Average-Above Average HC (depending on if he has to make a difficult call late in the game). So to get better, you have to go for it with a younger phenom OC or DC. But that means Jerry would have to make a difficult decision and he’s terrible at that (re: Dak’s overpaid deal for what you get in return from Dak). So I expect McCarthy back (which I hate). He took over a very talented (roster-wise) team but hasn’t advanced them in the Postseason. I’d go out and hire Ben Johnson. A great HC will immediately change the culture and take the team further in the Playoffs.

Mike gets a lot of shit from the fanbase, just like just about every coach in the NFL besides Andy Reid. I don’t think he’s a bad coach, but I don’t see what signs point to him being a great coach. As yall mentioned, he’s certainly not the problem but he clearly has shown he is not the solution. The expectation should be deep playoff runs, not “yay we won 12 games and led the league in scoring again but got embarrassed in the playoffs… again.” I think his success has peaked with this team. Clock management has continued to be a problem for him and our offense has often times looked prehistoric compared to the modern NFL offensive powerhouses. So what are you keeping him for? What’s his big draw? Move on. Don’t think Ben Johnson would come here but would love Vrabel to come in and instill a culture. Don’t think we’d crumble under the pressure and shrivel in big moments like we have with Vrabes.
