The Normans were arguably one of the most influential groups in history. Within 2 centuries they controlled half of France, all of England, southern Italy, Sicily, and Antioch. Can’t think of another group who has done that. They were not only fierce warriors but supporters of the arts and culture. Truly unique.

Like the Burgundians, Visigoths and such they were distinguished by adopting or adapting to Roman ways and their own, in those waves of influence.
