Heart dropped when your tension tool / wrench came out before plug spun.. I was like NOOOOO -- unfair - he worked so hard.. LOL
@AlbertLebel7 жыл бұрын
I have had that happen, soon as its picked the tension wrench pops loose. Best thing to do is freeze and do like he did. I have learned so many tricks from B'Bill.

happy this isn't a "Whipped by" I feel bad when you don't get them open... you and the lockpicklawer should do a "pick off". I think that'll be a GREAT episode
@georgeeads86897 жыл бұрын
One thing I have learned when a pin pops out and you are still in the open position never never turn it back to the lock position. Bill you were lucky on that one. Great video.

at 9:30 it looks like the keypin in 4 is a little shallow, that could explain why it would stick a bit.

So security pins don’t work if one is a good lock picker like you. Great work.

Its all about slowing down the lock picker and hopefully stopping them. Like ASSA barrel pins being super difficult. I tell my customers locks are just to slow down or deter a thief

Hey Bill, new subscriber. I was wondering if I wanted to get into locksmithing where is a good place to start?
@bosnianbill7 жыл бұрын
Talk to a local locksmith because the laws vary State to State.
@Buzzcut8977 жыл бұрын
bosnianbill Tried that, went to 2 local shops and both just told me "go to community college lol". Also in an older video you said you like to bring challenge locks with you on long flights, my question is how do you get your picks past TSA?
@send97 жыл бұрын
TSA has no problems with picks, I always travel with mine. There's only a few states you can't have picks in (TSA is federal anyway), but traveling to other countries is another story.

Does anyone know how the key ways are made/cut in locks like these ?
@ManWithBeard19907 жыл бұрын
I've wondered about that as well. It's probably broached, I think, but if you wanted to build a custom one yourself from scratch it's probably easier with wire EDM.
@shockwavecity7 жыл бұрын
probably broached all the way through a long slug of metal, then they literally cut keyways off the slug.
@rileyfenley5227 жыл бұрын
Durrington Dave it looks like it was a previous key that was modified with hand tools.
@davemunch9997 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that but it was the key way I asked about not the key itself.
@FusionDeveloper7 жыл бұрын
I can't seem to find the answer. I guess it's possible it could be a REALLY long key shaped file (maybe 1-10 feet long) that starts from the bottom. i.imgur.com/EwBHRbm.png The reason it would be so much longer than the keyway it is cutting, is because it would be filing it down a tiny bit at a time. I think this may be the only way, because I don't think it's possible to have spinning blades or rotating files to cut some of the keyways I've seen and still have precision. However, a secured plug with a track based guided file, sounds possible. Let me know if you find an actual video showing this 1 single step. It's something I've wondered about.

Why do you keep calling them copper springs? Copper is malleable and can not be used as a spring. Those are bronze or monel springs, maybe beryllium copper but not likely - beryllium is expensive and carcinogenic.
