When this came out in the summer of 1975 people listened to their radios without headphones and I remember being at the beach and there were a hundred little radios all over the beach tuned to the same radio station, playing this song, so as you walked along you could hear it just slightly, all the while you walked, like one long continuous play on all those tiny radios. It was magical.

1975..my daughter was 2 years young and my marriage had broken down-he was an alcoholic and I was not able to deal with him because I just immigrated from Germany to Canada -fell in love with a person who was (so I thought-) in love with me-I certainly was. Upon entering his apartment this song played on the radio always. My English was not good enough to understand everything but I did understood “ I’m not in love…” ; month later he broke up with me, I was lost and devastated. My poor baby girl she went through a lot with me; definitely it was a very uncertain time for me…it was a year later I meet my 2nd husband.

I'm 62 years old now and remember hearing this when it first came out. I was 15 . It was a beautiful song but had no special meaning to me till four years later. I'd fallen deeply in love at 17 with my first and in a certain special way only true love. The love that only a virgin heart can have. Then at 19 we parted ways. I knew it would happen eventually, but it didn't make the pain in my heart and soul any lesser. One day some time shortly after I heard this song on the radio again and it was like hearing it for the first time.. I'd heard it so many times before, but I'd never really heard it before till then. I cried,...... Today a tear still comes to my face when I hear it, but my tears are of gratitude to the girl I loved so very deeply in my heart. Thank you Katry K. You'll always be my first, and I'll always see your face in my memory when I hear this song. 10cc, thank you for what you did, because it seemed for a long time that every time I heard this beautiful tune, my wound healed a little bit more, because I knew mine wasn't the first broken heart.

True life experience: Summer 1975, 19 years old, driving my 69 Camaro convertible on the way home from my girlfiends house very late on a warm muggy night. Painfully in love with her but also terribly afraid of it because of where it could lead...this song comes on the radio. What the hell? Did they somehow read my mind and extract all my feelings then create a song from it!? I cannot listen to this today without becoming overwhelmed by a debilitating wave of nostalgia bringing with it all those same feelings from nearly 50 years ago. That's powerful! The girl? "I'm Not In Love" is a song by the British rock band 10cc, released in 1975. It was written by band members Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman and produced by Stewart. The song is about a man who tries to convince himself that he is not in love with someone, despite the fact that he is clearly still in love with her. He repeats the title phrase "I'm not in love" throughout the song as a sort of mantra, trying to convince himself of this fact. The lyrics touch on themes of denial, heartbreak, and the struggle to move on from a past relationship. The song is notable for its innovative use of technology, including multitrack recording and tape loops, which were used to create the song's distinctive sound. The band reportedly used a technique called "gizmo" to create the backing vocals, which involved recording individual syllables and then looping them together to create a choir-like effect. "I'm Not In Love" was a commercial success, reaching the top five in both the UK and US charts. It has since become a classic of 1970s pop and has been covered by a number of other artists. The song's innovative production and emotional lyrics have made it a staple of classic rock radio and a beloved song for many music fans.
@LisaE-w6y Жыл бұрын
I like what you wrote, your "he protests too much" theory, that he really is in love.. I remember beginning a relationship at the time it came out. Although a beautiful song, it's beauty seemed to elevate the message. I didn't like the song because of the repeated "I'm not in love." I felt insecure at the time. Here, is another interpretation, reputedly the songwriter's (from Wikipedia): Stewart came up with the idea for the song after his wife, to whom he had been married for eight years at that point, asked him why he did not say "I love you" more often to her. Stewart said, "I had this crazy idea in my mind that repeating those words would somehow degrade the meaning, so I told her, 'Well, if I say every day "I love you, darling, I love you, blah, blah, blah", it's not gonna mean anything eventually'. That statement led me to try to figure out another way of saying it, and the result was that I chose to say 'I'm not in love with you', while subtly giving all the reasons throughout the song why I could never let go of this relationship."[5]

She and I were virgins .A long time we went out each other but one day ,separated by my parents moving more than 10 000 km away ,we stayed in touch for 3 years and before our réunion ,she can't resist ,she went out with another guy she met at college ,she gave herself to him and she shared her life for 20 years and she gave him two grown-up daughters . Me , I waited for Her during 20 years ( today ,it' s still the case) and I never went out with anyone other than her during all the Time and one song remains ours : The BEE GEES " How Deep Is Your Love" for my Misfortune...

An absolute classic. That they played the tape machine and mixer like a sampler with 48 (3 x16) voices on each note of an octave is astonishing. The bass notes are a half-speed version. It just drips with coolness and is the soundtrack to falling in love in the mid-70s.

Strangely, I now remember this song playing on all the radios and stereos throughout town, during that summer of 1975 as well. This tune made it big on the charts. Each day, the skies seemed to be the deepest blue, the sun blazing hot, and each night seemed to be simply plastered with stars. I always loved going out, cruising the drag with my buddies, or with that one special chick. Life made sense then, emotions ran high, and we all seemed to have dreams. I recall my last day living in Butte Montana--where I was born and raised--and listening to this song in the car with my best friend. Warm wind from all the windows rolled down, gently whipped through our hair. I also remember glancing out at the darkening-violet shadows over-taking the rugged ridges and canyons of the huge Continental Divide, and I reminded myself it would be some time before I would see this mountain range again, because I would be heading to college in Minneapolis Minnesota the next day. I somehow knew that evening, I would never come back to this place to live, but I knew my heart would never leave it. I just knew, because tears clouded my eyes and they fatefully seemed to find their way down innocently-expectant cheeks... It had been a sign.

In 1975, I spotted the most beautiful looking boy (he was 21) at a bar called Ty’s in Manhattan. It was crowded as usual on a Saturday night. Gradually the crowd moved him closer to where I was standing. I eventually said hello to him and not too long after he agreed to drive home with me to Brooklyn. It was a wonderful night. After making breakfast he said he had to get back to the city. He was visiting from a small town outside Pittsburgh. Driving over the Brooklyn Bridge on a sunny Sunday morning this song started playing on the radio. Whenever I hear it I think of those hours I shared with Michael Duffy. I never did see him again.

So the three members - Kevin, Lol & Graham - spent three weeks in the studio crafting an artificial choir. They would hold one note for as long as they possibly could 16 times in a row (one for each track on their 16-track machine), then they’d bounce all of that down onto stereo tape. They repeated this process for 13 notes - a chromatic scale in the key of C. This ended up giving the band 624 voices to work with, in total.

Yup. They sang 'ah' 16 times, chromatically, to 48 overlayed voices over 12 tracks, one for each note in the scale. F'n genius.

My husband and I drove from Texas to Acapulco Mexico. We had no clear radio reception when we were driving thru the mountains at night. But somehow this song came thru clearly, only this song and nothing else. Every time I hear this song it reminds me of this time in 75.

I'll take advantage regarding the ammount of likes this comment currently has to say that, in fact, there were a lot of god songs and artists in the 70's such as Bee gees or Bohemian Rhapsody as the single that launched Queen's Career

I was 12 in the Summer of 1975. got a clock radio for my birthday, and with that, my first exposure to am radio. WLS out of chicago came in every night at around 10 pm and faded out by 3 or so. this song was one of the first to come across what seemed like a million miles to my little radio. awesome tune.

I broke up with my college sweetheart & drove out to the country to clear my head, I ended up stopping my car around midnight at the foundation of a burned down house. This song came on the sad music & the fallen home seemed to represent my life at that moment. I cried for hours until the sun came up.

Throws me back to childhood. I was the middle of 7 kids and shared a room with my older brothers Timmy and Eric and every night we went to sleep to the radio. Christmas 1974 we were excited to see that Santa had left a new stereo with turntable under the tree for us to put in our room, replacing the time-worn bedside AM radio we had been listening to. Maybe it was that switch to FM, or maybe that I was simply maturing at the ripe age of 8, but 1975 stands out in my mind for some reason and I remember every song from that year with particular acuity. This was one of those songs that got massive radio airplay and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Hang on to those good ole memories. Thank u for sharing.. I was only 5 when this song came out. I still remember vividly the song on radio playing as I got older. It never got old. My mom was married to my dad and was a housewife and on the phone with the man that delivered our mail. Well, the mailman.. they talked for hours while my dad worked hard. And then you hear this song playing in the background..
