@@10MARC Right. I had PCs while owning several Amigas during the 90s, and for graphics and sound I never thought about using the PC. The standard Amiga compared to a standard 386 DX with graphics and sound cards still held them off.

@@milk-it this is so true. It was not until the 486 came out that I even thought PC's were worth it - and I did not use Windows 3.1 - I went with OS2/Warp and stayed with that until Windows 95 came out.

First Q! Why do I need a TBC card?
@10MARC5 жыл бұрын
@@RetroPanic only one camera or device will sync to input one. If you hook up a second camera will not sync with the first and will rolland be distorted unless you are incredibly lucky. A TBC takes the first signal, and allows other signals to sync with it. If all you have is one input and one output device you are fine, two input devices require a TBC
@RetroPanic5 жыл бұрын
Which TBC to buy, brand?
@10MARC5 жыл бұрын
If you want an internal, you need to find one with an 8 bit ISA slot for power. The DKB brand were great back in the day, but any should work. There are also some external units that I had seen on eBay not long ago. As long as they are Time Base Correcters with multiple input and outputs you should be OK. They are not used too much today since everything went digital.

@10MARC4 жыл бұрын
I have never had it run in actual RTG modes - it just does not work. It should still work when you run it in RGB modes, right? It just relies 100% on the Amiga Chipset. Personal paint runs great in 256 color RGB modes. You may want to try that out. Version 7.1 is free, and 7.3 is pretty inexpensive.

Doug, when you set the resolutions, what is the difference between Use and Save? Is use just a one time thing, and Save is basically save and use permanently?

You are correct. Use just uses it for that session. Reboot and it goes back to the previous setting. Useful if you are not sure a resolution will actually work - you can just reboot of it does not

10 Minute Amiga Retro Cast Thanks for the quick reply! Just to give you a big thumbs up, I would just mention that I recently purchased an A1200, and ordered a Checkmate A1500 Plus case, as well as signing up for a Vampire V1200..... And realized how rusty my Amiga knowledge has become after 25 years plus since last owning one.... I googled / checked KZbin, and came across your Amiga beginners guide video. This googling etc. was only a few days ago, and I literally spent much of my Easter holiday time watching most of your content, and just now finished episode 54 with the iBrowse update. 10 Minute Amiga Retro Cast Yes, binge watching! And it does not happen often that I do that. :D But I find your way of showing and telling about Amiga subjects very user friendly so to say, and Well really getting to learn Workbench and commands etc. is what I started out looking for, and there the beginners guide you made was really a good starting point. Though really glad your A4000 got a SCSI2SD now, as the first many episodes I thought you lived at an Airport! One suggestion to consider maybe in future episodes. Sometimes when you show yourself in the big picture, and for example a screen / workbench etc. in the smaller picture / frame on the KZbin video, it can be hard to see the contents of the smaller frame like follow your actions or commands etc. on the Amiga. In those times, I was sitting and wondering if maybe switching those around so you were talking to the viewers in the smalls window / frame, and the actions you perform on the Amiga was shown in the larger picture? :)

@@amndk34 I see what you are saying about the picture in picture. It usually looks fine in a computer monitor, but probably is too small on a phone. The past few episodes I have been going full screen on the computer and just doing voice over. I hope that works better. Thanks for the comments!!!

It is worth getting a Retargetable Graphics Card if you can find one. It introduces zero compatibility issues, as you can always switch back to Amiga Graphics if something does not work. Seeing your Amiga Workbench running full speed at 1024 x 768 in tens of thousands of colors is pretty nice! Even though the Toaster won't work in Sweden (NTSC only) you can still find some fantastic Genlocks that give you a TON of video options. Fun stuff!

10 Minute Amiga Retro Cast I did get a newer RTG card, but passed it on again. It ate too much of my RAM space (4mb). I think I need to find a fatter accelerator that will give me access to more ram than 8 to make it useful enough
@10MARC5 жыл бұрын
Oh that makes sense. I have seen some cards do that. Mine only seems to grab 1 MB of FAST RAM, and I think I could turn that off with a jumper on the Picasso card (and sacrifice some speed) Getting an accelerator that lets you break the 8 MB barrier really helps. I wish they still made some. It is possible to use several A500 accelerators in the 68000 socket with an adapter, but that can affect the Zorro card usage
@DomedagsPoeten5 жыл бұрын

I loved my A1500 back in the day although I never had the budget to expanded it beyond an 030 and 4mb RAM. I do currently have a 2000 although it stopped working and I don't seem to have the skill to diagnose it. My theory is that the fat lady stopped singing.As time allows I'll attempt to gently troubleshoot in the hope that I'll get there.

Yes it is impressive what they can still do. You would be lucky to have a PC made in 1987 still run a spreadsheet, and here I am editing live video on my Amiga. The 2000 board almost always dies from VARTA leakage. I have two other boards that either don't work, or hardly work, because of the leakage. They are repairable usually, but often need sockets replaced or damages traces repaired to get working again
