Just ordered 2 boxes for my fiancees son who is working in Wyoming on a cattle ranch. They have been seeing several grizzles lately. His father got him a Glock 20 and i got him some bear stoppers. Hoping he never has to use them but if he does looks like it will do the job. I have been using Underwood for years out of my Sig Sauer P220 and love it.

@@achav012 I will use both. The 220 grain will just give a little bit more recoil due to the heavier weight but both will do a great job. My preferred choice would be the 220 grain hardcast for larger animal protection.

@@yellowjacket7134 That is some awesome, I do mean awesome stopping power, penetration. I'm eastern U.S., don't shoot 10mm, but recently purchased Underwood ammo for the 50 Beowulf. 420 extreem penetrators, and some flat nosed. After reading their bullet designs and terminals, I must say, Underwood has to be the best kept secret in the industry! Btw, their customer service is A+, and they go well beyond the norm to accomodate. Currently, they have 10mm IN STOCK. These days, you just about have to buy the ammo, then find the platform to send it. Impressive, (10mm hard cast) doesn't do justice to the description.

JPG, Bad news, in a REAL bear attack spray is completely worthless & you'll never have time to use both. Shoot em in the FACE where they're brains at. Most folks don't know bears real anatomy. Skull Slopes sharply down behind the eyes & a center mass head shot is only jaw muscles which just pisses them off more. Even with their heart/ lungs shot clean out they can still live for minutes running on pure rage adrenalin & muscle memory & mess you up. A shot about 1/3 of the way down from the back sideways will shatter both shoulder plates crippling them so they can't still chase you. These rounds WILL go through both plates on even a normal grizzly. Bears ALWAYS die with their eyes OPEN. If they're close they're just trying to bluff you to getting closer so they can finish their attack.

Since it didn't penetrate 14 jugs this time, this cartridge may have been loaded slightly less hot than last time. Or the polyethylene plastic of the big jugs may have actually been a little thicker and harder than that of the small jugs, after all. Either way, I'm gonna call this a good 13-14 jug round.
@richardmarler86374 жыл бұрын
Or the total mass difference between the different sizes of jugs made a difference.
@texasbeast2394 жыл бұрын
@@richardmarler8637 - Perhaps the greater volume of water in the larger jugs also meant more internal water pressure. The big jugs are taller, and therefore have more water located higher within them than do 1 gal jugs, with their narrower throats at the top. This definitely means that at any given height off the table, there is even more water still above that in the big jugs than in the small jugs. And that means that the bullet had to go through a greater amount of water pressure resistance in the big jugs.

Thanks! It's a tough call. I actually was really impressed by the 115 Xtreme Defender compared to the Xtreme Penetrator. The 220 lead was amazing in the water jugs but not very impressive in the cinder blocks. I know cinder blocks aren't realistic to any bear parts, but it gave me the impression that the Xtreme Defender might break through bones better than the cast lead. Maybe I'd alternate those two. Completely depends on the gun you have. The Rock island armory 1911 in 10mm was built to handle full power loads, which is what I own so I dont have to worry about it. I heard that the glock 20/29 might need a better recoil spring.
@nirv4 жыл бұрын
I have a Glock 20 and have shot some of these rounds (less than 10) at the gun range. When I was done I cleaned the barrel and it was fine. They say that the lead of the hard cast gets caught up in the polygonal rifling inside the stock barrels, and the KKM barrels don't have that polygonal rifling. The solution is either buy XTreme Penetrator 140g from Underwood which are fine to shoot unlimited out of the stock barrel and have comparable penetration results, or pay extra for another barrel and use hard cast. People say hard cast is SLIGHTLY better but they say the XTreme Penetrator rounds are about as good, but they're a little more expensive. I go with the 140g XTreme Penetrator even though I have 4 boxes of hard cast. I don't really want to buy a new barrel. I think it'd be fine to shoot a few hard cast out of the stock barrels but don't make a habit out of it.
@texasbeast2394 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that when the Glock manuals tell you not to use lead rounds, they are referring to unjacketed, uncoated, bare lead rounds. Miniscule amounts of lead get scraped off the surface of naked rounds and then get deposited behind (as "leading") inside the rifling. Supposedly the polygonal rifling of Glocks fits closer against the sides of the bullet than standard button rifling, so when that minuscule amount of lead gets left behind, it doesn't take long to clog up the minimal gappage and build up pressure to the point of overpressure and kabooms. But UW works around that by coating their hardcast lead rounds with a bright red layer of lubricant. And supposedly this prevents the lead from ever coming into direct contact with the rifling, thereby preventing overpressure kabooms. Allegedly.

It would be great to find out I carry a 40 with 200 gr hard-cast from double tap at 950 ft at the muzzle, that’s my deep woods carry I hate to one day need them & the bullets fail to penetrate because they lost their ability to stay as a solid as they were intended to do so

@@richardmarler8637 Unless you have money to burn, changing out every year is expensive and completely unnecessary. Every 5-10 years is more realistic. Modern nickel plated brass ammo is good for 40-50 years provided it's not submerged or stored openly in a high humidity environment.
