I think she's talking about more than just money. It's the creative input, like, "I think we should do " and someone else says, "no we're going to do instead" and she busts out, "I'm the executive producer, we're going to do " and someone else yields and says, "OK, we're going to do ".

Imagine what she had to go thru to problem solve and say that she needed to do something to protect herself and loved ones. As a woman? And a person of color? I can only imagine she wanted to expanded her creativity, and with yesrs of successful acting and fashion under her belt Im sure she would request or say hey can we do this or we are doing this. And then get laughed out the room or turned down. Im not sure many catch that part. But there's a certain point in a successful actor's career when its no long you making your own choices, your given options with a set of consequences and ultimatums. And when it comes down to like wanting to do a film or be part of a project you have to face head on whether it benefits your reputation and secures your stability or not. I think my take away is her wanting to get behind the scenes more is her way of being able to say no more. Just my take I guess.
