Dive into the 10th Grade CSI Europe History Lab: Investigating the Black Plague
In this engaging video, our 10th-grade students take on the role of historical detectives, investigating the causes and effects of the infamous Black Plague in Europe. Through hands-on, interactive learning, they analyze both primary and secondary sources to uncover the truth behind one of the deadliest pandemics in history.
Historical Inquiry:
Students explore and analyze a variety of historical evidence, including documents and artifacts, to piece together the puzzle of how the plague spread and the devastating impact it had on Europe.
Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving:
By investigating a "crime scene" setup, students develop and test their own hypotheses about the Black Plague’s origins and effects. They work collaboratively to interpret the evidence and form conclusions based on their findings.
Collaboration:
Teamwork is essential as students engage in discussions and come to consensus on key aspects of the plague, drawing on the clues presented in the crime scene.
STEM Integration:
Students also apply principles of design and engineering by creating their own historically accurate plague masks, gaining insight into the medical practices of the time and enhancing their interdisciplinary learning.
Student-Centered Learning:
In this student-led investigation, learners ask questions, reflect on their discoveries, and take ownership of the process as they work together to solve the historical mystery.
Engagement & Creativity:
The lab is full of hands-on, creative activities that allow students to demonstrate their understanding of historical events in an enjoyable and meaningful way.
