in the early days as far as I remember it was very common that cows had access to salt stones. There is a deficit and the animals try to compensate for this. Did you never had a craving for example oranges? Your body knows that it needs vitamins so you eat or buy them

Every dairy I work on provides free choice salt blocks in the feed lanes at all times. All cows are different some may not need supplemental salt and others do

This video, it was interesting to see you learn about some new problems, fixed some of those, and implemented new features such as the 2nd parlor water sprinkler. You were able to install it quicker than the old due to improved technique of building on the ground. In addition to all of that, the regular daily activities were performed as well as other periodic activities such as drying out particular cows. It was nice to see the cows are staying cool and are happy, as you said. Happy cows mean more milk, as you have taught us. Most interesting, thanks.

You should put a sacrificial sleeve ( I like garden hose) around things that you put zip ties on. That slight vibration will cut through the rubber coating on that new galvanized cable and potentially lead to early corrosion. Still doing a great job and love your content.

Good videos. Keep up the great work. Funny how cattle know when they are lacking something but us humans don’t. You put salt blocks in for cattle they lick on them for salt intake. You bed cows with straw they eat it when they are lacking fiber. God bless

Awesome videos. For a little easier cleanup on your robots, coat them with a little oil after you clean and thoroughly dry them. I've used pam spray or any cooking oil in a spray bottle. It's safe for the environment and makes the "stuff" slide right off.

Hi, Eric great new content. The life of a dairy farmer is never dull cause there is always something needing fixing. The investment in the barns over the last couple years is paying off with the cows enjoying their new surroundings which are always clean and tidy. Another great investment in solar power which should pay off in saving electricity over the years. Will the solar panels need covering when it snows in winter? Chris from Australia 🇦🇺.

Always something to fix on a farm.. Solar is a great idea, though putting it on the roof complicates roof repairs, and complicates keeping the panels clean. Might want to ask someone who has had solar for a while how they would do it..Keep up the great vids! ❤

Cows, like many animals, have a natural craving for salt, a behaviour known as "salt-seeking" or "salt appetite." This is because salt is an essential mineral that plays a crucial role in various physiological processes within their bodies. Some of the reasons why cows like salt on its own include: Sodium requirement: Sodium is a fundamental electrolyte necessary for maintaining proper fluid balance, nerve function, and muscle contractions. Cows need an adequate amount of sodium in their diet to support these physiological functions. Salt deficiency: In some cases, the cows' regular diet may lack sufficient salt content. Their bodies recognise this deficiency, triggering a craving for salt to balance their electrolyte levels. Palatability: Salt enhances the taste of feed and makes it more appealing to cows. Providing salt separately from their regular feed can encourage them to consume the necessary nutrients. Water intake stimulation: Providing salt can increase cows' water intake, which is crucial for proper hydration, especially in hot weather. Salt storage in the body: Cows have a limited ability to store excess salt in their bodies, so they have developed an appetite for salt when it is available to meet their ongoing needs.

To keep a correct balance between wear and tear and maintenance over so many different machines, installations and applications seems to have a lot of experience involved as well as pure magic sometimes. Use up almost fully but don't get an interrupt. And always do it better than your competitors if you can. In a way just like in wars at attack.

What is your opinion of the flex stalls after this period of time--any breakage? I see that you are back to the hydrated lime. I assume that the product that you tried was not satisfactory. Too bad; that hydrated lime is mean stuff to handle and worse to breathe. On any of your sprinkler systems do you place filters to keep debris from plugging the nozzles?
