when I was a young man, I helped on a local farm. They had one silo and chopped corn too. On the bottom of the silo was a valve, it was used to drain the liquid from the silo. You fellows have come a long way in farming.

Only caveat: someone has to climb on a very regular basis. I only dealt with 65' and less, but it gets tiresome, especially as the unloaders wear. Not much fun hoisting a 10hp electric motor up a chute. And a 24' wants that 10hp motor. I wish him well.

Another great video with excellent content as always. You are so blessed to have those reliable custom harvesting and manure hauling crews in your neighborhood. I can see how hiring out these services saves you time and money. Not to mention how this system also reduces your stress. Looks like you’re getting close to firing up the Lely system. I hope it all comes together for you. I am interested to see how the feed quality turns out for the Triticale and Corn Silage. And how they will compare for TDN. Thanks again! How’s the house watching TV aerial view of the silos, I was wondering if you’d thought about putting a cat walk between the silos, so you could climb up one silo and go check another silo if you needed to? Also, I think it would be good to have a set of pitchforks, including 90° angle pitch forks, stored at the top of your silos on the outside or the inside! That way you wouldn’t need to drag forks to the top of the silo each time you need them. Also, a pulley with a quarter inch rope in the shoot would help you take things up to the top of the silo calm, like the plastic tarp he put over the top.

When you cover the top of the silage it sure would be handy to have some of those tire sidewalls up there to hold the plastic down, but not sure where you'd store them after you start feeding out of it.

Two questions; 1- are there plans to pour concrete slabs where the blower parks at each silo so that you don't have to keep dragging that tarp? The tarp is definitely the cheaper option obviously. 2- when you cover the chaff, does it have to be plastic? Thinking you could get vision covers made either from canvas or vinyl that you could roll up and attach to the silo feeder/distributor when not in use. Like where I think you should have your pitchfork and shovels stored so you don't have to keep packing those up & down the ladders. Looks like a great harvest year so far though yeah?

silo to bunker comparison - an addition difference is spoilage and savings on plastic cover/tires. Also, what about the unloading requirement. I think the silo is going to be a win-win on these two items.

Hello. Why do you open these begs by making a hole on their side? Isn't it possible to open them from the bottom and thus, perhaps, reuse these bags for something else, such as storing grains?
@daveklein28262 ай бұрын
Total waste of time and the bags need to be rolled up to use
@amarofranciscovierosilveir97362 ай бұрын
There is no need to roll them up to use them. I have relatives who produce grain and reuse these bags and they don't seem to think it's a waste of time to reuse them. But the owner of the channel, if he thinks it's pertinent, can answer my question.
@fuelpagan12 ай бұрын
In an old episode he explained that the hole in the bottom doesn't get to the center part of the drill, so he has to cut the side to reach the center seed bins.
@michaellee6952 ай бұрын
Wouldn’t most of the juice in the silos percolate into the ground that you left open in the center of the floor? There were chucks of concrete, but it seems like the juice would have an easier time soaking into the center of the silo versus trying to force its way out between the silo side and the foundation.
