Nothing like the smell of fresh cut alfalfa and the feeling of a job well done. Even if you do have to get some dust down your back. So good to see Dutches watching over all the silo filling action. That is the calmest I have ever seen her! Have a blessed weekend!

Good point of the cutting preference, the right side where the hydraulic controls are, is my preferred side. That said, I don't have a pivoting cutter, so there's that I guess. Good video, enjoyed it, thanks for sharing, have a great week.

Your 4th cutting looks good compared to those from other parts of the country. I think your area has had more rains, for sure. The corn looks great, too. Thanks for showing all the work you do to get the silos ready. As a non-farmer, that’s very interesting to watch.

I recommend an old hooded sweat shirt for in the silos then cut the sleeves off. It's still warm but tolerable and it keeps feed from going down your neck

I cut over 56 acres of 2nd crop the other day, raked roughly 45 acres, got 15 5' bales. Drought here in Maine has left us with nearly nothing for 2nd. 1st was decent, so I'll have enough, but it's frustrating to be this far into summer and there's nothing but weeds to cut.

cheers Eric et all. always good to see how it all works just another day in the office for you guys, but fascinating to the rest of us! :) (do you watch 'harry's farm' at all?) This was quite concise vid this time. As always, we the baying crowd, want MORE! Cows first, feed, general labour, robots, bedding... but.. whats before all that?. budget planning? types of crops decisions? you know. behind the scences stuff. like Lizard Lick Towing (lol) the phone calls, the interactions with traders and sdupliers and neighbours etc.. Thats all stuff we'd LOVE to see.

If anyone else was curious why the cow’s belly has squiggly bulges: “Subcutaneous abdominal vein (milk vein) exits the gland at the anterior end of the front quarters and passes along abdominal wall. This is the large vein that is visible under the skin on the belly of the cow. It enters the body cavity at the xiphoid process via "milk wells", and eventually empties into vena cava.”

Funny to see somebody not using a center pivot mower the way it’s “intended” per se. I have a neighbour that cuts a spiral with his center pivot like you would with a side pull. Meanwhile we use a side pull to cut straight passes up and down the field like you are doing. I often spend a lot of the day cutting day dreaming of a center pivot/self propelled mower

Eric, I have a question. How dangerous is it in the silos and do you always have someone monitoring you while you're in the silo? I know from my son's job at a geothermal power plant that they practice Confined Space Rescue and that toxic gases/lack of oxygen are in lots of places (example swimming pool excavation, being below ground). I love the harvesting of your alfalfa!
