I accidentally did this with my forsythia. 😊👍 I noticed a branch on the ground had rooted and so I cut it off and had three extra plants that were rooted. I potted them up to give away at plant exchange. I see my gooseberry does this too. So now I know I can actually do this to make more.

I can’t take credit for the technique it’s been used as long as there were gardens.

This video has changed my life! I've been trying to grow Apricot from seed in the tropics (Kenya) for years and only 3 plants out of hundreds ever sprouted successfully and lived. Now I am seeing endless possibilities of a huge orchard of 5 acres using air layering from those three thanks to you! I also assume that if the parent plant is already fruiting, the air layered version will do the same?

The simplicity of it (stone over branch) is perfect for lazy me :-). Had always thought air layering was a very complicated process! Already started with several rare shrubs and fruit trees I was struggling to find!

Yes. Vegetative clone will be the same, select the best and multiply them.

Jean Martin Fortier does something similar with tomato plants.

I just bend the tip of my backberry canes into a pot full of soil and in no time I have a new plant. I either hold it down with a rock or brick.

Great video! Are you laying down and covering those cuttings without roots too? Or do the branches you cover still have to be attached before you lay them down? Thanks!

Gotcha. Thanks for the reply!

Does this work for all fruit shrubs? Like goji berries and gooseberries?
@Gam3Hack3r696 жыл бұрын
Okay thanks so you bend the branch inside the pot and fill with compost?

When do you perform the layering? After last frost and before first frost? Can it be done after first frost and before last frost? Thank you so much for the valuable information you continue to share!
@StefanSobkowiak6 жыл бұрын
You can layer any time except under the snow.

Does this work on low lying branches of a dwarf Anjou pear tree?
@StefanSobkowiak6 жыл бұрын
Worth a try, I’ve found some pears are easier to root than apples. May take a year more than shrubs.
