10x10 Coastal Capsule Wardrobe

Hello KZbin Family!
In today's video, I'm partnering with ‪@ValKovalchuk‬ to do one of my favorite capsule wardrobe practices and make a summer 10x10 capsule wardrobe. By limiting yourself to 10 pieces, you can really discover how versatile your wardrobe is! I wanted to do something a little bit different, so I went for a coastal capsule wardrobe, which I'm absolutely loving! The coastal grandmother aesthetic and coastal granddaughter aesthetics have been everywhere, and I find that they just really put a title to a style that I've loved for so long. After decades of wearing white, blue, pastel pin stripe blouses (usually cotton or linen). Add my stone beige slacks, white shorts, khaki capris and blue capris. Plus a flax linen unstructured blazer. I confess to owing lots of hats. Now I'm a fashionista Who knew?

Great video! I grew up in central Pennsylvania and no one dressed like this. The first time I ever saw it was when I went to Wickford Rhode Island in the summer during my early 30s. I was so amazed everyone was dressed in this style, and I felt like I was walking on the set of a movie, it was so surreal to me. I've loved the look ever since even though I only have a handful of pieces that remind me of it

These are great choices. I would say a striped blue-and-white tee is also an essential. Would look great under the buttondowns and the cable knit.

It’s so funny how this aesthetic got called “coastal grandmother”! I always called it “coastal” or “coastal New England” 😅 Where did you get your cable knit cardigan? It’s perfect! 😍 I LOVE loafers! Last year I leaned heavily into the preppy nautical look, and discovered how much I adore loafers.

Right!? It’s like, I knew what it looked like, but people suddenly started calling it that. Thanks to TikTok, of course. The cable knit cardigan is from a small boutique in Salt Lake that I got when I was visiting last year, but before I found it, I would often search for fisherman cardigans on Poshmark, and there are a lot of beautiful options!

Is such a beautiful aesthetic and a food sue so well, especially for where you live! Beautiful job curating this 10 x 10 wardrobe. What I love most about this aesthetic is The focus on lighter colors and the “sporty elegance” vibe that is also classic and minimal. I am very much drawn to this but would love to put more of a mountain mama twist on it. I live in North Idaho… This aesthetic really isn’t very practical here but then again neither is my light colored wardrobe base! I actually am doing an experiment right now; eliminating black for a season! I am actually really enjoying not wearing black apart from my favorite purse and a pair of sandals that have wooden accents. I personally cannot do loafers. I feel way too from being them. I had I went to thrift stores and tried on several styles including some more modern and recently made shoes from brands like Sam Edelman! I can’t pick a favorite outfit!! I would like to suggest… have you ever tried tucking your button down shirt collars inside your shirt and buttoning “inside out” so you don’t see the button? It is a lovely change in the shirt that provides a more casual, yet structured look to the shirt and makes button downs so versatile! Love all the content here! 🤗

Oooh that’s true! I recently saw on instagram that turtlenecks are THE coastal granny piece for the winter. I bet some layer with cable knits and beautiful preppy-leaning patterns and fabrics like tartans and tweeds would might be fun 😁.

Hi Kate! For sure! They are the 90s jeans from Everlane. The 100% cotton ones with the button fly. I’ve had them for years. Super soft and really low key for a pair of non-stretch denim, which I like!

Lots of practice 😂😂. Will have to show in an upcoming video, but I pretty much just twist it super tightly, and then I tuck half the teeth into the side with the most hair, so I know it will be held up. Kinda hard to explain 😅.

Those are the only kind of denim shorts I like, I hate ragged, butt-revealing denim cutoffs especially for women my age (62) and the elastic waistband is a must for me. I’m not overweight, but my waist just thickened in my 40s, and rigid waistbands just don’t work with my shape. My hips are slim, so to fit my waist, the hips on trousers will be up to 8 inches too big, they always look like clown pants.
