Hi Dave, Thanks for the heads up and congrats on the acquisition of the 10 x 42 SRBC. I have the 8 x 42 and it’s simply awesome! But I’ve noticed that the 10 x42 has been receiving rave reviews. The 10 x 42 has a larger TFOV than even the NL Pure IIRC so it must be phenomenal. I hope it gives you many years of viewing pleasure! Neil

Thank you Dr. for the well wishes. I will be holding on to this one as my new gold standard for comparison purposes, for sure. Now I'm looking at the Bosma version of this optical design in 12x56 or 15x56. Any thoughts? Also, I've got your book on my Christmas list. Let's see if my family loves me. 8x42 also have larger TFOV then NL 8x42 and 12x50 have largher AFOV then 12x50 (due to bigger magnification)

The Sky Rover with its large field of view looks really interesting, even if you can't call it a collector's binocular. (Things will get even more interesting when the first used models appear on eBay 😉).

Hi everybody. What is an interesting book? And by the way, I'm also thinking about 15*56 (5.3°) from this line right now, I can't forget my amazing experience with 15*50 (5°) binoculars on a tripod in the mountains. I also hope to compare the SRBC 12x50 with the same Bosma in a week and even more hope that I will be able to make a video comparing them and the currently available Bosma 10x42 and 10x50.

What would you recommend, I can get either Newcon an 10x50 (BA8 with reticle, middle price), Sa205 10x42(cheapest) or KOMZ BPO 10x42(most expensive)?

P. S. I'm getting Newcon for 190$, Sa205 for 160-170$ and KOMZ for around 280$

I apologize for not getting back to you till now. You've probably already made your purchase. My question to you is, do you want snappy focus in your binocular? If you do, your two best choices would be the SVBONY and the BPO. The Sa205 central focus is fine for the price while the BPO's individual focus is quick and precise - the best I.F.. that I have experienced. Of the two, the BPO has better control over C.A. overall and I found it to be sharper. However, if you don't mind color aberration near the edge of the field and you intend to carry your bino for extended periods then the Sa205 is a little gem. It's small and handy and surprisingly sharp for the price. I haven't had any experience with Newcon. But, if it is a BA8 from Kunming under a different name then it would be a good candidate for backyard astronomy. I wouldn't want it with a reticle though. It would likely be brighter than the others. The focus is slower and less distinct than that of the BPO and I wouldn't want to carry it around for daytime viewing at various objects at different distances. Mounted, it would be your best choice to check out the stars (in my opinion). If you collect binos as future investments then it's the BPO all day long. Your thoughts?

@@davidlytle3974 I've decided to buy generic BA8 without reticle directly from China over BPO, because it was 100 dollars cheaper and weight difference was only around 200 grams, while it had bigger lenses. I will mainly use it for handheld astronomy and birding, or with a small tripod and I have sturdy hands so the weight difference was not significant. Thank you for the answer though!

Are you requesting camera imaging through the unit or are you referring to images of the exit pupils or views though the objectives?

I have a comparison of BC and NV. and color abberation (maybe you mean chromatic abberation) and color fidelity is better on SRBC then NV. also better then FMTR. and SRBC is not design even for Asian faces. renowned Asian face bino such as EDG only have around 43mm but 48mm of SRBC is too much. they use big eyepiece for large, highly corrected FOV. that's why they didn't have plan for launching 32mm while launching even 56mm. they can't deliver similer optical performance with reducing the size of oculars (they can't use 48mm in 32...) (also 42~50 (perhaps56) seem to use same sized eyepieces.) It is optically a phenomenal bino but it still have many difficulties in real use serch as QC and focus disabilities in dense woods. and also eyecup issue it might doesn't have blackouts because blackouts usually come with ER longer then height of eyecups but it can have opposite disabilities though it is not an NL killer that Chinese declared, but still good enough to overwelm against almost all of 1500$ bins in overall optically. as I said above, real use is another thing. I hate it's characteristic of relatively flat view, focus mechanism, eye placement in birding. but for eyeglass wearers and astronomy users, it is a gem plus. I found out 12x50 has better sharpness with better color fidelity. I keep both but mostly use 12x50. SRBC have relatively high percentage of QC issue then other bino in same price but if you got the right one, you won't regret it. and... SA205... really good bino for it's price. overall optically similar with mornarch 7. though little dimmer and less color contrast. I don't know what you got but 10x42 is much worse then 8x42 such as in terms of color fidelity (yellower) and ER 'Go for lower power especially when you looking for cheap bino'is right again at SA205 too

@davidlytle3974 I don't think newly made bino are fond of making 7mm exit pupils. there are really small amount of people that can take advantage of using 7mm exit pupil because of increasing light pollution and elderness that degrades the maximum size of exit puiple. and 7 exit puipil bino have physical disadvantage of enlarging the FOV like other format. so it will be hard to maintain over 72 AFOV unless using bigger tubes and eyepeices like Nikon WX

From everything I've gathered, quality control is their weakness at this point. I did get lucky with my SRBC. But I personally know someone who didn't get the best and had to return it. This was the Bosma incarnation. The build quality of mine is actually impressive, inside and out. But, until they can get the repeatability nailed, they will allow the big three some breathing room. In my opinion, their days will be numbered if U.O. ever manages to get the effective E.R. up around 19 -20mm. Your thoughts? 🤔

@davidlytle3974 Chinese have been making Porro prism with Stated ER close to 20mm severals years before. but stated ER is just STATED. real ER and usuable ER is quite different. such as SRBC 10x42 and NL 10x42 have same stated ER but NL have about 1.5~2mm more usuable ER enough to see full fov with one click stop left. Leica UV HD 8x32's FOV can seen with glasses even with 13.3 ER stated. on the other hand, Bushnell nitro 10x36 is hard for some to see with glasses even with 17mm ER stated. Zeiss victory HT 10x42 with 16mm ER is easier to see with specs then Shuntu Panorama 10x42 which is considered as Pre OEM model of Athlone cronus gen 1(19.3mm) stats don't say everything plus. I posted SRBC's QC issues on BF. price will rose if they starts to maintain the level of QC to same priced branded bino such as Nikon, Kowa, Vortex.
