@echolocationn NPC's aren't a great example of the class fantasy. Sylvanis doesn't have a pet, neither did Hemet. Most of the NPC's outside of Rexxar (who's canonically BM / Survival anyhow) don't have anything more than an Owl. Mechanically pets have been bad for a long time and added little value. In the core experience of playing they offer little. BM and survival incorporate their pets meaningfully, MM doesn't and hasn't for years. MM's real problem is the lack of good gameplay and rotation (S2 dragonflight Tier set was a bright moment in a bad expansion for us.) Make the class fun, tune the fantasy after that. The fun I get using it over other spec's or classes is why I've enjoyed it. Again, BM gives a way better pet fantasy, same with survival. Just be glad you don't have pet happiness anymore either.

@echolocationn No, I said that pets specifically for MM in gameplay are mechanically bad and offer little value. I noted that the class should be a fun gameplay experience - then they can tune fantasy afterwards. Lots of spec's have gone through reworks (as pointed out here) that lose things. I want to enjoy my class and be rewarded for skillful gameplay, if they remove the pet and make it more interesting and rewarding that is far more compelling for me to play. If I want a pet I'll go BM where they actually add to my kit and fantasy. As an aside, options are great for your class but are not always meaningful. The pets for hunters either offered a lust effect or a sometimes tank for open world or solo content. They didn't change my rotation, they didn't make my talent choices more meaningful, and they most certainly get lost in the crowd while raiding or M+ing. A redesign is hopefully going to make that the focus of the class.

Ngl the whole "lost the pet" aspect is getting overblown imo. Lone wolf has been the only way to play MM for what? A decade now? And people have always been complaining about how much of a hassle a pet was when you had to summon and dismiss for hero etc? MM hasn't had anything to do with pets in terms of identity for years. If you're upset about losing a pet for questing, you can really just l2p. Outside of very niche or insignificant things (maybe farming transmogs will be 0.5% more difficult?) it never had any meaning for the spec. People yapping about no pets are just like the X users who are never happy with anything. I'd much rather take any and all QoL that the new stuff brings instead of what MM "had" before.

This exactly! MM without a pet will teach players how to play better and not rely on a pet. We already have plenty of cc to deal with kiting like disengage, freezing trap, tar trap, explosive trap, stun, daze, etc. Additionally, better healing, speed, and feign death. Do you really need a personal tank for every hunter spec? Clearing 8+ delves is definitely doable on MM without pets as MM is my main and done it plenty of times by myself. Plus MM hunter was pretty much meant to be played without a pet anyway. If you want to play a hunter with pets, then there are 2 other hunter specs with pets you can play. They don’t all 3 have to have pets.

I'll be the weird one here: I'm fine losing the pet with MM (although it was nice to have with delves), but I am really upset about losing Barrage. Sure, barrage was shit for most content, but it's an amazing quality of life for older content or anywhere that you want to pull tons of mobs to farm things.

I really don't like how all the "tuning" going on right now is *VERY* obviously happening just to make the tier bonuses not suck. It's just as obvious as Hpal where instead of buffing a z-tier healer they are just moving healing around into Holy Shock to prop up the tier bonuses. We should be designing tier bonuses around specs, not the other way around holy shit.....

Too early to tell, but the current PTR diminishes the value of Trueshot in 2 ways and magnifies all the Aimed Shot enhancers in priority. First, Precise Shot consumption takes priority even in time-limited Trueshot buff window where it only buffs Rapid Fire and Aimed Shot. That fills a GCD during Trueshot. Second, they changed Withering Fire to NOT automatically shoot Black Arrow during Trueshot which is another GCD gone during Trueshot and not using the exclusive benefactors of Trueshot which are AS and RF. We will see.

The visual aspect of pets is just as important as the gameplay aspect here Yeah i know people are all “we’ve been running lone wolf for however long so what does it matter” Well remember that WoW was built around having rpg elements ontop of being an mmo. The type of aspects that i would surmise a larger majority of casual players enjoy. Like it or not, WoW is a dress up game where people will run decade old raids for pretty looking gear pieces to match their outfits. People like looking cool and mixing and matching visual elements like hunter pets in this case. The pet has been a major part of the fantasy of hunters since WoW’s inception and now it’s being removed for an entire third of the class and being replaced with one out of hundreds upon hundreds of options hunters have had access to for 20 years now. There’s a clear lack of consideration for the crowd of players who just aren’t so viciously invested with the balancing of the game and might not agree with losing a core part of that fantasy. Yeah you could tell them “oh just switch to bm or surv“ but i feel like that’s missing the point. I’m reminded of the nonsense that happened with Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. Fans asked why the X-men, marvel characters who were almost synonymous with the identity of mvc were being glossed over from the roster and capcom’s big response was that “they’re just functions. Just play another character that can do magneto’s 5 air dashes or whatever he does”. A majority of people who play the game don’t pick magneto for a function that he does, they pick magneto because he’s magneto, the iconic x-men villain that people love to be. Needless to say, people were rightfully pissed. Excuse the analogy of another type of game entirely but the point is people shouldn’t have to be forced to pick another hunter spec they may not like just to have a fantasy of being a marksman while having your pet companion. Blizz could’ve found a middle ground i feel. Something that still gave mm hunters the freedom to at least customize the “eagle” visual to a pet of their choosing, at least if we’re talking the nuclear route of removing the pet entirely and yet they didn’t. I’m positive something could be done here. Blizz isn’t a small indie company. It just can’t be denied that under all the net benefits of the rework, the people who want to play hunters for the joy of having a cool pet companion and maybe were more attached to the mm spec lost something when they really shouldn’t have. That’s the argument that i feel shouldn’t be forgotten in this whole debate.

I like the idea of slower but powerful shots instead of fast shots, MM is a sniper. So having more crit and crit damage is cool for me. It fits. I always disliked out main cd. I want my cds to feel powerfull like: OH SHIT CD IS UP, BIG NUMERS INC.

Seeing this rework I am glad I quit my Hunter in Legion. All around changes over the many expansions that make the class worse and worse. BM is for toddlers, MM once again without a pet and Survival is rather boring compared to its first version in Legion with all the cool damage traps and Lacerate. Its insane how much more fun and interesting Pets were in Classic and SoD and in Retail they are just... there... since WoD. Shame to see how expac by expac the Game cares less and less about being an RPG. Of course a Marksman Sniper has a machine gun double tap Rapid Fire and not one or two hardhitting shots. Cataclysms Aimed Shot into Chimera Shot was still peak MM.

To me the specs are more of a flavor of the class rather than the class itself like BM is the wow style hunter always using pets to do most of the work for you then you have MM which is basically a ranger/sniper type of flavor that doesn't use pets (or well it shouldn't have before) cause the idea to me should be to pick your foes off before they can reach you or figure out where you are and then you have survival which sounds like a typical spear hunter or primitive hunter one that likes to hunt its prey up close by using a melee weapon and traps and stuff idk it makes sense to me when i look at it like that since every class has one spec that more or less plays into the stereotypical class fantasy

@@echolocationn having an eagle/hawk makes sense for a sniper to have in a setting like wow think of the hawk companion from AC odyssey it can help you spot your target without drawing suspicion cause a distraction or harass guards to create an opening ect. Unless wow has some kind of tech equivalent to modern day spy gear or CIA stuff available then it's easy to explain why they give you an eagle and nobody is going to lose any of the pets they have as a MM they're still the stable waiting for you but you won't be able to use em as MM which I get sucks I know what it's like to lose integral parts of your class or have the devs change a certain mechanic to it that you're already used to and the new one just feels like ass but from all the arguments I've seen people are upset that they'll be stuck with a random eagle as a MM instead of their favorite pet which from what I understand was only ever used in open world stuff and to provide the bloodlust effect during dungeons and raids if you don't like the change that's fine from what you said they'll probably reverse these changes in a patch or two regardless I still stand by the opinion just go play the other two specs if you want to keep using pets at least you have that option in wow can't say the same with other MMOs

@@MagusLeaf The only problem with it is that they're tying it to a lvl 17 talent choice node. So, new MM hunters will be leveling for 7 levels without a pet at all, which is clunky. But, that's nothing normal with how clunky the leveling system is with Hunters as Survival hunters literally have to wait until lvl 13 before they learn a melee ability.

I think the changes are a good start but they need to get rid of multi shot and make it so the aoe rotation revolves around volley (reduce the cooldown and buff damage), barrage and explosive shot and maybe give MM another aoe ability. Also hunters mark should mimick havok for 2 target instead of the dead talent they gave us. I just feel like the devs are so lazy with hunter. They reuse multishot, kill shot, kill command and explosive shot between the 3 specs (and are heavily used). Outside of hero talents warlock and mage dont reuse any damage abilities (shadow bolt is optional with affliction). Hunter was my initial main when I started but after playing other classes its just so hard to go back when its lacking so many things other classes have.

I mean, due to Lone Wolf, you didn't have a pet out as MM. So how can you say MM lost a pet, when they didn't even use one to begin with!? People who wanted a pet didn't play MM. The Spotting Eagle can actually be a core part of identity for MM, if it has good animations.. xD -- And MM gets to have actual pet utility (stun and Roar of Sac without pet being CCable or LOSed) and BOTH one of Fortitude of the Bear(budget last stand) / Master's Call(budget Blessing of Freedom) and BL at the SAME TIME!!! That is something BM and Surv cannot do, which is so awful to even think of, and shows how excessively outdated pet mechanics and limitations are in modern WoW. Epic miss. Forced removal of pets from MM is a terrible design that ticks off a significant portion of the non M+ population. They've tried this two times in the past, and had to reverse their decisions both times. But, of course this is a brand new dev group who didn't learn from history at all, and they're paying for it on the forums (vast majority of all posts about this patch on the WoW forums are against the removal of pets from MM).

Ive said it before and ill say it again, WoW players are the biggest complainers and will bitch and moan about literally every and anything and will take something so so small and turn it into a thanos level threat. Happens every week.

100% for dropping the pet for MM, play one of the other 2 specs that have them. Even SV could lose the pet and I'd just go, meh sure. BM should always require atleast one pet minimum, with the option to run multiple.

losing the pet is an absolute abomination. the pet it's in the hunter's core, regardless of the spec. ffs, blizz admitted it without saying it. the replacement for pet is ANOTHER pet. but a pet that you can't have any control upon. i get that some ppl want to play mm without a pet, but there could have been a better solution. make a choice node ffs. lone wolf (with bl and other utilities) and another talent that provides you the option to play with a pet, and make that pet relevant!! make it so as i, a pet enthusiast, should keep my pet up all the time. but nooo, blizz decided to remove it. "if it causes some inconveniences, don't fix it, remove it". that's their solution in 80% of the cases.

We all know what's gonna happen. Even if it's good , Blizz won't allow hunters to stay good . And it's gona get nerfed to the ground as they always do.We just gotta admit and face it that hunters will probably never be good to the point where groups will need and invited a hunter on purpose. Wow is anow a game where devs create the same meta each xpac: paladins, mages, priests and druids. That's it.

But I guess those are the same people that complained that their pet could not tank Zekvir 😂 Seems like people forgot that kiting once was an important aspect of hunter gameplay. But it seems like it‘s only relevant for PvP players now….

I love the idea of an eagle. Never mained hunter but trying just for this. It would be cool if we could tame flying beasts to use as skins for the eagle to give people their pet fix.

there are 2 kinds of reactions to this change: -those who understand the fantasy of this spec and are 100% in favor of the loss of the pet -those who stopped playing WoW years ago anyway and now just cry on Twatter no matter what Bliz does I can easily see an argument for the eagle to have some level of customization in its visuals, but MM has always been intended to be a petless class if you were playing MM with a pet, you were playing it wrong. it really is that damn simple. cry more

MM hunter has literally played lone wolf in 90% of content... and taking away the pet has now created all this drama...catering to the RP players or whoever finds it critical that you have a pet despite 2 other hunter specs that have pets..... so now the game is to bend the knee to the community that finds role playing more important? All it takes is to have a passive that grants a damage increase if you do not have a pet out and by being mm you lose access to pet utility but you get it on your spec it is not hard
